Super Bowl XXXVII

Postby BuddhaTB on Wed Jan 22, 2003 9:47 pm

Oakland Raiders vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Gruden vs. his former team. Oakland's #1 ranked Offense vs. Tampa Bay's #1 ranked Defense. I want Oakland to win, but Tampa Bay's Defense might slow down Oakland's Offense to only about 24 pts, while Tampa Bay's Offense might overpower Oakland's Defense. Gonna be a good Super Bowl baby! :D

My Prediction
Oakland Raiders 24
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 17

Let's hope there will be some awesome commercials shown during the Super Bowl.

I am gonna have to go with Gruden and the Bucs. While I believe that this is one of the most evenly matched Super Bowls in a few years, I think that Gruden's intimate knowledge of the personnel and the schemes (which have been tweaked, but not a lot) will be the deciding factor. Plus, Chuckie has an axe or two to grind with old Al Davis, so he is probably sleeping a half hour a night instead of his traditional 2 this week coming up with schemes. Throw in a front 4 that can provide up the middle pressure on Gannon without blitzing, and I dare say that we end up with a 21 - 17 Bucs Championship.

Anyways, being a transplanted Texan, i gotta throw a shout out to Da' Boyz and their future Super Bowl under the Tuna!!

The Packers aren't in the Super Bowl so I really don't care who wins. I'm going to watch for the commercials.

The Raiders.

Gannon is a calm, experienced and pretty good QB.
The offensive line is HUGE and competent.
Have guys who have plenty of playoff/Superbowl experience.

I like both teams so frankly I don't really care who wins.

It would be nice for the Bucs to win since they never had before.

It should be a great Superbowl. :D

Not like that 49'er's / San Diego farce from a few years ago.

I understood you clearly, TheWizard. I didn't think it was necessary for me to make a post regarding your neutral stance regarding the big game.

As a Packer fan like Ian, I normally wouldn't care who wins since the Packers aren't playing. However, given how the Tampa/Green Bay game turned out this year, I am definitely rooting for the Raiders.

Looking at it objectively though, I read a stat in today's paper that when the #1 defensive team goes up against the #1 offensive team in the Super Bowl, the defensive team is 6 and 1. I think it will be a good game, but unfortunately I think Tampa has a better shot at winning with their defense, especially since their offense has really come alive as well and can put their share of points on the board. If anyone can beat them though, it will be the Raiders.

Congrats to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers For Winning.

I'm just utterly disgusted with the Raiders. :x They couldn't do anything right. And then come the 4th quarter rally, its like why couldn't you have done that in the first half. Penalties, poor protection, and a lack of motivation/emotion is what doomed the Raiders. Rich Gannon went from MVP to chump with a 5 INT night. Raiders just fell apart and their heads were never really into it. Some will say that the Raiders were out played and out coached, but I believe the Raiders have no one but themselves to blame. This Super Bowl just sucked and I wish there was more awesome commercials.

And you know who this whole Super Bowl experience sucked the most for, Tim Brown.

BuddhaTB,

Tampa's Defence was just too much for the Raiders.

They didn't adapt by using the backs as blockers, a shotgun formation or short range crossing patterns.

The offensive co-ord should be fired.

But Tampa played a good fair game. Congrats. :D

Yeah the TB defense was too much in the first half, but it shouldn't have been that dominating. It's like the Raiders weren't even prepared for it. Take away those 3 defensive TD's and it would have been a much closer game. After the first 2 sacks, the Raiders should have mixed up the blocking scheme a bit to atleast give Gannon a chance. The break down in protection really cost the Raiders. They couldn't find a groove all nite until it was too late. As for the shotgun formation, they wouldn't have been possible. The Raiders have never used shot gun formation in the entire season and don't even practice it, so no point to use it and the result could have been several bad snaps that might have been fumbles. Raiders have no one else but themselves to blame, but Tampa did bring their "A" game to the big dance. The Raiders were very undisciplined as shown by the enormous amount of penalties they got. They also weren't hungry and motivated enough to win the game based on heart and desire. Enough about the Raiders, they'll be in a rebuilding project next year.

It's all about the NBA season now.

I don't think it was one of Bill Callahan's better coaching jobs this season either.

Tim Brown is absolutely washed up. He went from a decent #1 WR in fantasy to a waiver wire reject. I should know - I made a trade for him early in the season and regretted it every week thereafter.
