Their reseller rating is somewhat meh, though.

The F1 drives are starting to come down in price these days, if you can be patient and find them on special. A few weeks ago new F1 drives were being sold at OfficeDepot for $79 as well:

I seem to recall seeing the drive being sold somewhere else for $79 as well, although don't remember the specifics.

Go for Boone's deal if you want an inexpensive F1 now and are comfortable with compgeeks, but if you can wait, you might want to hold out for a brand new drive at around the same price.

There was also a sale at Office Depot this week where the Yamaha CRW-F1 was $79.84 after rebates. $79 seems to be the lowest price this drive has come down to. I think sales of the F1 have been really slumping due to the cost of Lite-On drives. You can get a good Lite-On drive for half the price of the Yamaha F1. But some people swear by Yamaha and will still buy the F1.

That's the other one I was thinking of! Thanks BuddhaTB. Don't know why I couldn't find it. I guess I didn't scroll down far enough. (I'm used to the deals on drives coming before the deals on media. Why did you mix it up on us for that list? :x   :D )

Because that's my trademark when I do the hot deals post. All my media deals come before the hardware deals. I figured there would be more people looking for CD/DVD media than buying a new CD-RW drive.

Does there need to be a standard for posting hot deals now?
1. Hardware always comes before CD/DVD media.
2. Use the smallest pic possible due to bandwidth of dial-up users.
3. Who really even cares, as long as people get their hot deals, its all good.

My general philosphy agrees with number 3, but I think number 2 is an important point (since it helps with the "as long as people get their hot deals" part), and out of respect for the wishes of my buddy dodecahedron, I say go with number 2! :D

Oh wow. :o I must have been not thinking straight or just wanted to please cfitz.

Maybe I'll just mix it up from time to time, so it won't always look the same. But a Hot Deal is a Hot Deal! :D

Did that one after a night of partying, huh? Couldn't tell up from down... must have been a great time! :D

LOL. That just cracked me up.

I think I might need to teach people what a good deal on CD media is. It's either people don't know what they're buying or they just have a fat wallet to burn. If it was 100-pack of Fuji's for $20 with no rebates attached, then yeah that would be a good deal. But $20 on no-name generic CMC's, that deal is a big PASS!

hey guys, no need to take it to extremes.
big pics are good too, they're really nice.
i remember once there was a question as to which software the drive came with and i caught that it was Nero, because you could actually see the Nero logo on the very big picture of the drive's box!
however, when the details are'nt important, a smaller pic is a lot easier for the users on dialup.

...and some of us will have both (Lite-On and Yamaha CRW-F1)! :D :D :D
My solution to the Plextor vs. Lite-On debate: Buy 'em both! :)
