I am about to get a LG 52x RW but am worried about its media compatibility as well as write quality.

Farookh, would you mind to post some CDR writing speed picture and burn some CDR to see which ones can do 52x?

Look at the Media Compatability thread, RazOrX, I added a few results for the GCE-8520B. It looks good, the only stumbles are that Fuji and Princo 48X media won't burn at 52X, but you can't expect all 48X to burn at a higher speed. So, this isn't really a stumble; you pay for 48X media and that is what you get...nothing more, nothing less.

Hey Farookh, nice job!
How much did you get that 8481 for? Looking at your VSNL address, I take it you are in India?
Thanks m8

Yeah.. same here

I don't understand what they're saying, even though i translated it with babelfish..
well, it says something about recording quality and failure and also hour product life, but it's not easily understandable

is there any other link that might be helpful?
but anyway in general not only for lg product if one overclock the burner will it damage the drive or reduce the quality?
Thx

Hello!

A question: Where can i get teh FW 1.00 for the LG 8481? I´d updated a LG 8481 from 1.00 to 1.02 and now it writes neweset SKC/Ritek 48x only at 16x

An other LG 8481 with 1.00 writes this CD-R´s at full speed

Thanks

Hello!

Can i save the old FW with the LG DOS-Firmware-flasher? I tested it with MTKFlash, but the saved file is much shorter than a original-FW

Thanks Scour.

It worked fine. Anyway it seems that my burner doesn't recognizes all the media as it is... :(
I think that this is a LG problem cos the same problems i got with all LG drives i ever used.
