interesting. the results look sweet for this drive. A 48x as fast as a 52x?

The 2nd edition of the TDK 48x24x48 doesn't look like its made by Lite-On. The drive looks exactly the same as the external model without the USB 2.0 enclosure.

I like the black one...but those burn/read tests are interesting. Why don't they just lable it as a 52x24x52x? Probably too paranoid like Plextor...

No, look at the back of the drive:

And then the back of the ASUS 52x:

They are the same. Of course, the front of the drive is different. One button on the TDK versus two on ASUS's drives. However, the LED and emergency ejecto hole placement are the same.

Hello!

Wow! When TDK has changed from LiteON to Asus and makes a beautiful burner like this, maybe i get not the Teac but the TDK :D

WOW! Looks very cool in Black and Blue.
If it is indeed a Asus drive as Ian mentioned, I wonder if it has the same negatives as the Asus:

* The drive's tray does not close easily when pushed
* Very loud when reading and writing

Writing times seem better than the Asus.

Ian: i thought the drive had to be identical for it to be re-badged, cause you said, theres only one button on the front of the tdk, and 2 on the asus

Now that I think about it, I wonder if its a TEAC. The TEAC has only one button.

well, they redisigned the faceplate anyway so they could just "ignore" one of the buttons (it could still be there hidden behind the faceplate).

i'd be more concerned with the Asus's writing quality issues.

It would be interesting to know what components inside are actually TDK. Just the blue tray or something more?

Will this new TDK be available in the US? And if so, when could we expect to see it?

Thanks

The review said it was available in Asia only right now. I really doubt TDK would bring it to the US. As it is, they're blowing out the remaining stock of veloCD 48x to make room for the 52x.

However, I could see them switching to this new design for the veloCD 52x and offer it in two colors. I've already asked my TDK contact to look into it. As I find out more, I'll let you know.

Hello!

I hope TDK will bring the black 52x. And i hope, that will be an Asus/Teac-OEM, not a LiteOn
