Your College Cuisine

Postby F1Pilot on Sun Feb 02, 2003 1:48 pm

During college, my roomies and I would throw wicked keg parties. Needless to say, it would cut into food money (even though "there's a porkchop in every beer"). We'd resort to Domino's (they were the only ones delivering to our area), KFC (we had a friend that worked there) and Mickey D's (we had an inside tip that they tossed out good food at the end of the day...knew someone there that would bag it for us). Those were the days! Glad it's over. :-?

What did you live off of in college?

The same stuff...Domino's and Sbarro pizza, KFC, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Dunkin' Donuts. Heck, I'm STILL living off this food...maybe it's because I'm still in college.

We used to eat Pizza Pit when I was in the dorms. Cheap stuff.. tasted like ass too but when you're half in the bag, it doesn't matter.

When I got older and moved off campus, I cooked for myself. Even then, it was all microwave stuff or frozen pizzas. Still not the best.

Thank god for wives. My wife cooks for me now. I'm actually back down to the same weight as when I started college.

I'm married. Mine only cooks 1/2 the time. The other half is up to me.

I think it's time we start ordering out again.

I hear ya, Wiz & Ian. Taco Bell was another one of them for me. I hate Dominos, but it worked for us. We used to tear off the box tops and stick them all over the room as wall paper and ceiling tile.

As far as weight goes, it could have gone either way. Me...I definitely weigh more now than before. My wife is a great cook...too good. :-?

I was never a big fan of La Bamba. You ever eat at Qdoba? Now that is some good stuff.

Yea, I got it on my car! It's just for decoration, that's it and that's all.

No, hell no. It would be funny to put on someone elses car though!! Do it Ian!!

The guys got a huge hill billy truck. It sounds like a diesel with straight pipes on it. Loud as hell and he insists on revving it at 6 am and all times of the night.

I figured it would be funny if he had to drive around with it going wooo wooo

Agreed . Qdoba is far better - although it wasn't around when I was there. Qdoba is one of our favorite places for a quick bite. The chicken fajita burrito is the best. Every week it seems like a new one is opening here in Milwaukee, which is great.

Chipotle Grill also opened their first location here. Its amazing how similar the two are from the food to the atmosphere, etc. My wife and I both decided it wasn't as good as Qdoba - kind of bland. Just what I would expect given that its owned by McDonald's.

How would you be able to stand a "wooo wooo" in the morning?! I agree, that would be the ultimate punishment

I didn't know that Chipotle Grill was owned by McDonalds

I haven't tried Chipotle Grill yet. I think they opened one on State Street. One of these days I'll have to brave the street kids and frat boys and check it out.

dhc014, I'd wake up laughing my ass off each morning, knowing that he'd be as embarrassed as hell to drive that truck to work and have all the other hill billies laugh at him.

Yes, it wasn't a McDonald's start-up, but they became a minority owner several years ago and then gradually expanded their ownership to become the majority owner.

Yeah, and it really sucked for me having Domino's because I'm from the NYC Metro Area, and nothing beats New York City pizza...NOTHING! Therefore going from NYC pizza to Domino's is a huge step in the wrong direction.

TheWizard...
OMG...Dominos is horrible. I mean, it's great if you want something cheap, and you have some pink bottled stuff. Other than that, it's called glutton for punishment.

Ever tried their buffalo wings? Our cat was trodging around...pouting for some of it...started to lick it's privates. I thought to myself, cat...you're better off sticking to that than having some of this crap. :-?

Hell, everyone FROM NY/NJ has told me that there's nothing like wings from the area. Gotta go and check some out when I get up thattaways. There's a place in Las Vegas that's awesome...called Chuy's...best damn wings I've ever heard. When they bring it to your table, and the A/C is just right, your eyes and nose burn as if you were doing some Super Glue. :P

Not that I've done the Super Glue thing before... *cough*

Well, Buffalo Wings started in...where else...but Buffalo, NY! :P So yeah, I guess the wings in New York are better than other places. I'd rather eat pizza than wings though.

Depends on how the pizza is, though. Same with the wings. I'm fussy about 'em. However, if there's one common...gotta have the good beer with both.

Aha, that is where you and I are different. :) I hate beer in general, but especially with food! Whoever said beer goes down smooth was obviously drunk. :P

Blasphemy!!

You're obviously not from Wisconsin. Either that, or you're not drinking the right beer.
