Erasing CD-RW help needed...

Postby Hashi on Tue Feb 04, 2003 10:09 am

Hello!
At first - sorry my english!

I am new user this CD-RW things
At home I format the LiteOn proffessional/multispeed(4-12x) 80min/700MB CD-RW with DirectCD ver.5.3.2.34 and filesystem of course UDF. At home I have WinXPSP1. At work I have WinME OS and same DirectCD version. Home I can see normally formatted CD-RW(labeled by my name) disk and I can use it, but at work I see only 491MB no free space UDFREADER labeled CD-RW and I can't write or erase nothing. On the disk I see some UDFRCHK.EXE, AUTORUN.INF and URFRINST.ZL files. At home I use LTR-40125S writer and at work HP-8200+ writer.
I try erase this CD-RW but not Nero, Easy CD Creator of Feurio can't to do this - they tells something about errors or "disk is not writable".
Is here NTFS and FAT problem or why I can't at work read data on the disk, erase or re-format this CD-RW?
Help me please!

Hi there
the thing is there is no problem of the NTFS and Fat stuff as u dont need that file system for a cd as a cd has atotaly diffrent file sys there i think must be problem with the software or the one which is giving u errors is simply not recognising ur cd as it is used somewhere else

it's not clear - are you trying to erase the disc with Nero, Easy CD Creator and Feurio on your work computer?

since everything seems to be ok on the home computer, it seems like you have some software problem on the work computer.
try to uninstall DirectCD and then re-install it.

what drive are you using on the work computer?

HP CD-Writer Plus 8200i is 4/4/20, so it can't handle High Speed media, such as 4x-12x. Thus for the HP writer you must use slower media, e.g., 2x or 1x-4x. :(

KCK got it "right on the money".

Use older 1x-4x cd-rw discs with both drives and there should be no trouble.

The LTR-40125S can use the 4x-12x cd-rw but the HP can't !

Good one KCK. I read the post twice and didn't catch it either time.

Erasing CD-RW help needed...

Postby Hashi on Thu Feb 06, 2003 7:48 am

Hi!
Thanks to all answered persons!

HP Support tells me, to CD-Writer Plus 8200i drive cannot handle the fast speed CD-RW disks and I must buy newer model of CD-writer, what can handle fast-speed disks.

So it was not a problem at all, simply my writer is too old
At home I have newer model and I can use fast-speed CD-RW disks.

Thank You all again!
