Samsung drives are very good and compare very close to a Lite-On.
How did you know it was a Samsung drive inside?

What kind of facts are you looking for? I would go read the reviews on both drives. If you can't find a review of the drive here, then do a search on google. The main differences are the Lite-On has a 2MB buffer while the Samsung has an 8MB buffer. Also the Lite-On will support Mt. Rainer, while the Samsung does not. There are some other minor differences, that can be found by reading reviews of the drives on the net. If you bought this drive for cheap, I would suggest keeping it.

Mt. Rainer support may be as close as the next firmware update for the samsung and consider you usually get what you pay for.

Are you sure? I wouldn't be surprised if the OEM version of the Samsung had a 2MB buffer.

Ian, you could be right about the OEM version having the 2MB buffer. The reviews I've read were of the retail version that had the 8MB buffer.

Ah! I'm a little embarrassed I missed the reference. A great cartoon, with even greater lineage. :)

CDRLabs doesn't have a review of this particular drive, but there is a review of its combo-drive brother:

Samsung is only like one of the top tier CD-RW drives in the market today.
For $20, its a very good deal. I don't know why your complaining about a $20 CD-RW drive being a Samsung. You could have done much worse and have gotten a drive like Benq and etc that are of lower quality than the Samsung.

Well, feel free to return the Samsung if you have had bad experiences before and don't want to keep it. You are the one paying for the drive and you should be happy with your purchase. But personally, I would keep a Samsung bought for $20.

LeBrian, can you help me ?
I have a 248b and it doesn't support C2 Error Reporting.
I noticed that you have 248f. Can you open NeroInfo Tool and tell me please if your drive has C2 Error Reporting ?

Thanks

Careful with that drive- I updated the firmware and screwed it up. Apparently the firmware available from samsung can not
be used for this drive, and cendyne offers no firmware for it.
