This is a long one, BuddhaTB. Thanks for your efforts. They really are appreciated.

I'm giving serious thought to that Western Digital hard drive, but probably won't be able to get to the store today or tomorrow, and it is sold out online... :( Oh well, maybe next time.

By the way, let me reiterate my warning about Mad Dog failing to honor its rebates:

I think Tiffany is taking up far more bandwidth than Comp USA

CowboySlim, thanks for letting me know about that. I just found out that the $7 Mail-In Rebate is only valid when you buy the Memorex CD-R's AND a notebook or desktop computer.

Sorry for misleading everyone.
But I think everyone was too busy staring at Tiffani and Jaime get it on to notice this error.

Hmmm...the Mad Dog burner looks as if it's a rebadged Artec. If you closely at the upper right-hand corner, you can make out the words "JustLink technology." :)

Update: Yup, just as I suspected. A quick check on their website confirmed that this burner uses the JustLink buffer underrun technology.
My solution to the Plextor vs. Lite-On debate: Buy 'em both! :)

cfitz, I thought long and hard about it too, but decided not to get it. The $120 rebate is pretty large.

I also picked up a 15" LCD monitor by Kogi. It's got 350:1 resolution. It's only $199 after a $90 rebate. Is this a good deal?

Based on the 350:1 resolution ratio, it seems to be a very good deal. For LCD screens, the higher the resolution the better, but you don't want one too high or else the LCD won't last as long. Should be a very good deal if the colors show up nice and vibrant on the LCD screen.

How long is the warranty on it?

Who makes the Mad Dog DVD drive

Postby MCKComputerWorks on Mon Feb 17, 2003 1:24 am

I gave in and purchased one of the Mad Dog DVD drives. On the label, it says "Ultima Electronics Corp." Any idea who this company is and if this drive is any good?? Thanks!!

However, I think some of their drives might be actually made by Artec, so I would check out Ian's review on the Artec 16x DVD-ROM.

Cool! The warranty is 3 years, which is better than the Fry's Electronic (www.outpost.com) 15" $199 online (or $189 in store today and tomorrow) LCD monitor, which only has a 1 year or 25,000 hour back light warranty.
