According to dhc014's website, it looks like it uses Lite-On firmware.

It is likely a Lite-ON, but it uses a customized firmware and will be recognized as a Verbatin 522452AL. The verbatim firmware that was sent to me was corrupt and incomplete. Please back up your current firmware and send it to me! :D It should be version 68S1.

You must use mtkflash in real DOS to backup the firmware. Instructions.

Verbatim doesn't really offer firmware updates. You can actually get some Verbatim firmwares from www.cendyne.com but none for the 52/24/52 model

I don't like DOS... too DARK in there !

OK Verbatim IS a LiteOn LTR-52246S OEM !
Verbatim fware 68S1 = LiteOn fware 6S0C

I just wonder if it is possible to turn my OEM into a genuine LiteOn..??

You can get your Verbatim 68S1 here 8) http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firm ... ufactor=55

Of course it is. Go to dimitri's site (see his signature) and get FlashFix. You can use it to modify one of the genuine flash installers from LiteOn so that it will flash your drive.

dhc014 is quite aware of that site - he runs a section of it. Did you see who was responsible for all the firmware links on the page that you referenced?

More importantly, it looks like he might not have the 68S1 firmware, since there is no active link to it. Please don't flash your drive until you backup the 68S1 firmware and send it to dhc014.

Thanks cfitz for keeping elim's excitement down for now

As I said before, the copy that I received from someone was corrupted. I had enough to be sure that it was a Lite-ON, but about half of the backup was missing. I am a collector of firmwares and I like to keep them for backup whenever someone wants them so if you can, please do venture into the darkness of DOS and make a backup. If you have any questions about it, I'd love to help :)

Thanks eliminator, and I have already created a Windows flasher (I did it before FlashFix came out) to convert the Verbatim to a Lite-ON. I'll link it once you have a backup ;)

hehe :D , it's only up to 6S0A though, you'll have to update to 6S0C using the official Lite-ON flasher if you want to after the conversion.

I know, but I'm afraid of the dark (DOS!), specially when alone ! :-?
Hopefully we'll do it tomorrow evening... anyways, I will NOT flash it before I save the original Verbatim fware for you !
