Need help w/ Philips CDRW-2412 install @ Win2K

Postby fanglemeister on Thu Feb 20, 2003 3:21 pm

Recently upgraded my machine to Win2KPro OS, I need a driver or installer for a Philips CDRW-2412A; none of the usual sources have
this, the W98 installer from Philips on CD doesn't work, system crashed when running installer.
Is there any hope of getting this Philips drive to work or should I give it the flotation test and buy something else? (This was only $60 at walmart so no great loss I guess).

Does Windows see the drive at all?

Or are you having problems installing the bundled software?

Windows is seeing the drive and is calling it a CDRW2412A but unfortunately is treating it as a plain old read-only CDROM drive, none of the usual burning software I have tried installing recognizes it as a CDRW writer. The driver is the standard windows cdrom driver.

I had one of these drives (CDD6611 or similar IIRC). Nero 5.5.7.0 and later (possibly earlier as well) will recognise this drive as a writer.

Curious though, I never had any problems with this drive being recognised. It was never the greatest of burners (although it wasn't that bad either) but everything seemed to recognise it.
