It seems many SM-348B users in South Korea are complaining now. Some are asking why the new firmware release is late. Some others are asking for a refund.

Samsung made the latest firmware not to recognize the 48x writability for some CMC 48x media and limit the speed to 40x because Samsung had found out there were four types of CMC 48x media with the same code while two of them worked at 48x and the other two only at 40x.

In general, the drive is still very popular.

Maybe that is why the T505 firmware is late.

SM-348B/DOM firmware T505 was released four days ago.

It seems the T505 firmware still does not support Mt. Rainier. T506 is also planned for release.

Subject: Greetings from Florida!

Could you please help me with the Korean language on the Samsung firmware page? In particular I would like to know if they are saying anything about Mt. Rainier support for the sm-332b combo drive. TIA

I usually do not quote emails, PM's, instant messages, etc. on open boards. But I will rather kill myself than allow things like this to happen everyday. Another guy who looked like a 22-year-old boy from Minnesota State, US asked me what CD writers I had through ICQ. Of course, he must have known my ICQ number either here, DVDplusRW, CDFreaks, or somewhere else related to CD/DVD. I told him to post questions on open boards unless they are personal and confidential about five times while talking over ICQ. He seemed to understand my points after all. Then, again, he asked me what CD writer was the best.

Samsung has stopped running the QA page as I said above. If you are interested, send emails in English (I can assure all of you most of them hate English) to Samsung Electronics people in Seoul so that they will change some things about the way they work. Not to me.

I agree with you Kennyshin. It is best to post all questions to open forums rather than to PM or email them to individual people. Doing so increases your chances of getting an answer, since everyone can see your question, including the people who know the answer, and it allows others to benefit by reading the question and answer. Share the knowledge! :D

Maybe I should add this a suggestion for the "rules" page:

Hello guys. Can anyone help me....

I've allready posted here with my problems, but this looks like a proper topic for problems...

Here is the text I wrote:

Hijacker wrote:I've recently bought a Samsung SM-348B drive since I read all good reviews...

Well. All I had with him was problems... First thing I noticed was that the bastard only has 2MB of buffer when on the Samsung page it states that it has 8MB. I said OK. As long as it works...

But... The bastard doesn't work as it should. The problem with it that it doesn't burn as it should.

Here is the situation. I use latest Nero version under Windows XP. It starts to burn fine at around 20x speed. The it writes till like 60% but then something happens. The speed falls down to 24x or 32x and until the writing is finished it writes at this speed. So basicly this means that one full 80 minut CD is written in around 3 minutes and 40 seconds. This sucks!

I use latest T505 firmware and I also use my patched region free firmware (http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=11231). No good. I've tried T504 and even older firmware. Same happens to each and every one of them...

Anyone has any idea what could the problem be?

I really hope you can help me...

Well it's very unfortunate you put me in the same boat with a "22 year old from..." who was rude enough to bother you repeatedly. However that's not what I did. I asked a very specialized language question to the only person on the board who seemed like he could help me rather than waste bandwidth with little chance of an answer. Silly me, I was unaware of Samsungs VERY resent removal of their forum. (I don't speak the language you will remember) In the future I will check several times a day on all the forums mentioned above so I don't make a fool out of myself again. And BTW I find your mention of Samsungs "hatred" of english very unfortunate as well. Please don't trouble yourself with my posts and threads in the future now that I have seen your attitude is so peevish.

Wayne, please don't take it personally. Kennyshin is a good guy who contributes a lot to these and other forums, but he can't be expected to answer emails and private messages individually, nor is it fair to expect him to be your private interpreter. I don't know if you post a lot on other forums, but when one posts as much as Kennyshin (he is active on far more sites than just this), one finds that the volume of "personal" correspondence can be overwhelming. There are a lot inconsiderate people who want everything spoon fed to them, and who greedily value their own time above that of those whom they ask for favors.

I suspect that your request just happened to be the proverbial straw that broke Kennyshin's back. I can understand that you don't feel very happy being personally held up as an example of what not to do, and I can't say that I necessarily think Kennyshin did the right thing by revealing you specifically as an offender, but if you can just chalk it up to a learning experience and not a personal attack by Kennyshin.

Here is my general take on the matter:

Please post all questions in the public forums rather than submitting them directly to a member via email or private messaging (PM), unless your question is truly of a personal and private nature. It is unfair to the recipient of your question to expect him or her to give your question personal attention. Everyone is busy. And it is better for you to post publicly because a question in the public forums is visible to everyone, increasing the chances that someone with the answer will read it and reply. Finally, a public post creates a record of your question and, hopefully, the answer, that can serve as a resource for others, now or in the future, who might have the same question.

My thoughts on the matter.

Postby Wayne on Thu Feb 20, 2003 11:55 pm

I appreciate you're trying to act as peacemaker in this matter cfitz. You seem like a very centered individual and I hope in the future I can come to consider you a mentor in this subject of CD ROMS.

Unfortunately the other party to this matter has personally offended me and if I had heard someone else make a statement to the effect that "But I will rather kill myself than allow things like this to happen everyday." I would personally call the authorities on him for his own good. This kind of wreakless and irresponsible talk is not acceptable in any context and brings into serious doubt the mental state of the person making it. This person has at the very least shamed himself in this forum for _no_good_reason_ and needs to seriously reconsider his involvement in the wider internet community for his own peace of mind and well being. I would just like to add I would normally send correspondence of this nature through PM's but I am quite honestly afraid of how he may react. He is quite obviously an expert on certain technical subjects but the person has serious issues he needs to go away and deal with.

Well, all I will say is that I have gotten hot over posts others made in the past, and I have learned that doing so isn't worth it. Although it's hard not to be angry when you read something that offends you, getting mad doesn't help you at all - it just raises your blood pressure. And sometimes it isn't even justified because the offending post wasn't intended to be, and the whole affair is simply a misunderstanding. Written communication is more susceptible to being misconstrued because audible and visual cues aren't available to help resolve ambiguities.

Anyway, although I haven't yet personally perfected the art of savoir-faire, I think it is probably a worthwhile goal for which to strive. You, me, Kennyshin and everyone is better off if we just let certain posts slide without getting personally offended and responding in kind. That doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't disagree, nor does it mean you shouldn't politely call out bad behavior when you feel it is appropriate to do so, but it does mean we would probably all be better off by improving our civility and taking a more easy-going and understanding stance. I resolve to put myself first in line for this personal improvement.

Further clarification....

Postby Wayne on Fri Feb 21, 2003 1:24 am

cfitz you have gone beyond the call of duty in this situation. Good on you sir.

I just want to clarify that Kennyshin's post did not make me angry but instead shocked and saddened me. This is a real shame that he and I have gotten off to such a bad beginning over such a truely trivial matter. If he had taken the time to know me maybe he could have appreciated the fact I studied Tae Kwon Do for 15 years and have never hit anyone in anger.

If you seriously think this is a trivial issue, then concentrate on Samsung CD/DVD combo drives in this thread as I have for months here. I do not react to people equally. You have spent more on personal issues here.

If you want to know what's written on a South Korean page, just post it here on open boards unless it is a private request that is important enough to the forum (not just to one person). I promise nothing though.

Anyway... Here you can download the patched RPC-1 version:

T506 fixes

Does the Korean download page indicate what the T506 firmware revision addresses--other than Mt. Rainier support?

Hi Guys,

1. Official Samsung T506 Firmware supports Mt. Rainier. (But it's possible as kennyshin says that it's not mentioned in thier page - sorry I cannot read Korean).

2. Also try the DVD Region Free cracked (RPC I) T506 firmware by Hijacker. It seem to work perfectly (see the screen cap of Info Tool). So far I didn't play any DVDs with this update but burned many cds without any complain.
Here is the link: http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?p=41667#41667

3. Kennyshin & CFitz, many thanks for the service you are doing for the community. Maybe all of us have a sensitive switch in us. Regardless of how patient we feel when we reach that line or when this switch gets activated, we are sure to yield and let the pressre flow. So hence we have known to each other in the forums for sometime, I kindly ask everyone to forgive and forget. Apologies if Im bringing a dead topic to life. Honestly this posting is only intended to remind friends who care for others, of thier own goodwill...

Take care and if I had violated any rules, I want to talk to my attorney first. ;-)

@integspec

Thank you for your kind words. You seem to live in Seoul though you cannot read the Korean language. A visitor or government personnel maybe?

Now there are SM-352B in the retail market for a little more than SM-348B.
