Imation 52x24x52 Internal CD-RW Drive

Postby stevenyy on Mon Feb 24, 2003 6:35 am

Does anyone knows if this is an OEM Lite-On LTR-52246S? Can this drive be updated with Lite-On firmware?

Is there any utilities to make a backup of the firmware on a CDR/RW?

Thanks,
Steve

The current firmware is 6SG1, but there is something strange. I hook it up a external USB2 casing, and Nero's max write speed is only 40X.

From your website, you have a new firmware 6SG3. Does this fix the 40X write problem?

It might, I doubt it though. The limit could be due to a bandwidth problem, what interface is the enclosure hooked up to?

The USB2 casing internally supports up to ATA/100 but it is using a 40-pin cable, so only up to ATA/33 is actually supported.

The bandwidth should not be an issue, since Nero merely probes the CDRW and interpretes the response.

I would try to install it internally on a ATA/100 and test it out again.

If this is a Lite-On OEM drive, I would want to make a copy of the original firmware before flashing it with something new. Is there a software to read off the firmware off the drive, just like a motherboard BIOS?

BTW, your website list the following:
CCR-6S52 (OEM LTR-52246S)
- 6SG1 - (B) (Traxdata Uranus, same as 6S02)
- 6SG3 - (W/B) (4kus)

What is (B) and (W/B)?

Thanks.

(B) means that I have a firmware binary, (W) means that I have a Windows Flasher. I upload the files as they are requested so if you don't want to backup, then download an already made backup from here. If you want to learn how to back up your firmware, I suggest that you read either my little tutorial or the MTKFLASH guide at cdfreaks.com

:o So the Imation CDR-6S52 is actually 4KUS CDR-6S52, also a Lite-On OEM.

Solved the puzzle of 40x vs 52x, actually with SMART-BURN enabled, the CDRW detected the max write speed of the media to be 40X. With SMART-BURN disabled, the max write speed becomes 52X.

Case closed. Thanks very much.

Final question, what is the Lite-On firmware equivalent to 6SG1 and 6SG3?

The 6SG3 is dated 16 Dec 2002, while the Lite-On 6S0C is dated 27 Jan 2003.

The 4KUS and the Imation are both OEM Lite-ONs. 6SG1 is the same thing as 6S02. I don't know what 6SG3 is though, 6S07 maybe?
