cd-r compatibility??

Burn baby burn!

cd-r compatibility??

Postby gabriel on Thu Feb 27, 2003 2:41 pm

im using an Artec WRA-WA48 burner, with ahead nero 5.5.7.2
I've recently picked up a couple dozen Starmedia 99 minute /870MB blanks, but when i go to burn, they show up as being 80 minutes / 703MB.
i have no idea what to do, as the files i would like to burn are each 715-800MB avi files. If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it.

oh, and im bigtime 'newbie', so please keep the language simple

Any disc with more than 80 minutes of capacity will show up as 80 minutes. That includes 90 and 99 minute discs. This is normal, and due to the fact that these extended capacity discs are outside of the standards for CDs. However, you can still burn the extra data, even though the reported capacity is only 90 minutes.

Read Spazmogen's overburning guide:

http://www3.sympatico.ca/brad.ormsby/spazmogen.htm

It is written for audio, but the same principles apply to data discs.

thanks. i was actually already reading the guide while you made the reply. note: it showing up as 80 minutes is fucked. since the file is data-type instead of audio, should i use data verification post-burn?

CDRlabs kicks ass!

It is probably a good idea to do so, just to be safe. Keep in mind that you are burning an "illegal" (in the sense of being outside of specifications) disc, so you aren't guaranteed success, and even if the disc burns and reads back okay in your burner, it might not be readable in other drives.

one last question

Postby gabriel on Thu Feb 27, 2003 3:16 pm

sorry, but i have one last question.
i checked off "enable overburn dis-at-once" in the preferences screen, but in the last screen before my burn, i cant select disc-at-once. the field stays gray and on track-at-once
