2 questions:
i get a 'power calibration error' when i start burning a new cd
do the times have to be set to 101:59:74 like in spazmogen's guide for a 99 minute cd?

Could be a media issue. Try a different brand of media.

No. It just needs to be set to the largest overburn you wish to make.

cfitz, could a power calbration error indicate a problem with the drive laser? I had a few of these errors on my old 48125W, and I had to RMA it, because I kept burning coasters on it. Could it have something to do with misalignment of the drive laser or something?

Sure, it could. But it is easier to check with some different media first, before going through the RMA hassle.
