Cendyne CDICD00173/Liteon LTR-52246S Slow CD-RW Writes

Postby 2aussies on Mon Mar 03, 2003 9:22 am

My new drive will only record to 16X high-speed certified Memorex CD-RW's at 4x. I updated the Flash BIOS to the latest R526SOC dated 1/27/03 on Lite-on's website. I am using Roxio EZ CD Creator 5.1.154.

It works great and fast with CD-R's, but the CD-RW writes are slow ! Can anyone suggest a soultion ?

Don't use Memorex CD-RW media. It is junk:

On the other hand, people have reported good success with the Verbatim 24x CD-RW media. You can find it for sale all over the place. Just do a search on Google:

5 pack - Verbatim 94458
10 pack - Verbatim 94457

On a similar note, I've got a stumper... (And I appologize if this has been asked before, but I didn't see anything on it, and I'm a bit new around here)
The drive claims to be 52x24x52x, right? But when I go to the speed selection dialogue in any of 3 burning programs, the highest option for CDRs is 40x, and more concerning, the only option for CD-RWs is 2x?!?!?
Any idea what might be causing this? Granted, the discs I've tried are't the best in the world, but I would think they'd be able to go higher than 2x.
thanks

What discs, exactly, are you using? And what speeds are they rated at?

Mostly some older Memorex, but I've tried a handfull of others as well... I don't expect them to go to teh full 24x, but they are rated to at least 8.
What brands work reasonably well? Like I said, I've had no problem with CDRs (I'm working through a generic 100pack I got when I had my 8 speed, and they seem to work fine up to 40x), just CD-RWs.
thanks

You can't go wrong with the Verbatim UltraSpeeds. Only drawback is they're just 74 min / 650 MiBytes.

And Memorex CD-RW media is poor quality. There are a number of threads around here discussing that and showing examples.
