DirectCD hangs at Finish....?

Postby EEG161 on Wed Mar 05, 2003 9:26 pm

WinXP HE Sp1a w/IE6 Sp1
DirectCD v5.3a latest version/patches
All Windows updates & Patches
MS Java VM

XP Burning Software turned off
TDK VeloCDrw 24x

CDr's format, get written to, then the very last step when DCD is making the CD read-only (write-protected), the progress bar goes to the end and just hangs there as the minutes (hours) keeping counting.

4 wasted CDrs so far. Anyway to troubleshoot this?

Update:

I just did a test with new CDr's, same type, but this time, when closing the CDr, I chose; "Close to most CDroms with UDF Reader installed", instead of "Close to All Cdrom Access", and there were no problems!

Its the last choice with DCD 5.3 when ejecting a disk that i get the errors and the progress hang. MAking the CDr readable on all CDroms is the problem, any ideas?

can you list the various options DCD gives you to "close" the disc?

you might also consider experimenting with CDRW discs so as not to waste CDs.

Yes, thanks.
There are 3 options when closing a CDr, unlike finishing a CDrw. CDrws with DirectCD are formatted then can be ejected and reinserted to continue copying files to it, it only has an eject option. For CDr's, when you eject it, you're presented with 3 options;
1. Leave as is (to continue copying files later).
2. Close to UDF v1.5
3. Close to all cdrom access. + and when this is chosen, the write protect disk so it can't be written to check box becomes available.

*UPDATE2:

Just finished another test. It seems DCD was having trouble reading these FAvicon files I had, .ICO files, that had 2 extensions and LFN's.
e.g. www.betaplace.com.ico
I just finished 2 CDr's and closed them to ALL CDRom Access and no errors! No progress bar hangs! All is well again! Thanks.

The "Close To All CDROM Access" option for CDR's closes the disc to ISO 9660 format so that it is universally readable by all devices and operating systems compatible with ISO 9660.

If the copied file structures were not compatible with the ISO 9660 structure (as with incorrect extensions and long filenames), then this (as you have already discovered) was the reason for the "stall" when closing to ISO 9660.
