You can check the features here:

http://www.roxio.com/en/products/ecdc/features.jhtml

Other than adding SVCD and DVD Builder that have been a few changes. There is a new Sound Editor that will accept .mp3, .wav, .wma, and .ogg files and .ogg support has been added. A new feature in creating MP3 discs is that you can now drag and drop the tracks in the order you want and Audio Central will automatically add track numbers so they will be burned in the order you want. For basic audio and data disc creation there is not a lot of difference although the burning engine has been redesigned.

ECDC 6 vrs ECDC 5

Postby jamesfrmphilly on Fri Mar 14, 2003 12:00 pm

i already had checked the Roxio site.
is the new burning engine better? how?
ECDC 5 gives you volume leveling and noise reduction in the "soundstream" option and gives you crossfade in the "music project"
option. in other words you can not get crossfade and volume leveling to gether you must chose one or the other.
i want to know if that's still true or have they integrated all their functionality?
can you overburn? easily?
also ECDC 5 hangs often on my machine, is ECDC 6 more stable?
i'd like to see a detailed review of ECDC 6 somewhere.
and lastly, do those of us who have ECDC 5 get an upgrade price or do we have to buy at full retail?

Is the burning engine better? I know of no way to determine if it is better. Time will tell I guess.

You can apply transitions and apply volume leveling both in Audio Central.

Roxio does not support overburning.

Is version 6 more stable? I don't know as I never had any problems with version 5 and so far have had none with version 6. (It is also possible to reinstall version 5 after installing version 6 if you create a new folder to install it in).

I did a Google search and found links to a few reviews.

Roxio is currently offering a $20.00 upgrade rebate. Amazon.com has one of the best prices at $59.99 after the $20.00 rebate.

i ordered it

Postby jamesfrmphilly on Fri Mar 14, 2003 7:45 pm

i'll find out for myself.
my ECDC 5 hangs all the time on my system.
i've been on the phone with Roxio more than with my girlfriend.
i've done 99 virus scans and i reinstall it once a week of so.
i'm hoping that ECDC 6 will be more stable on my box.

if it's that bad, why not switch to Nero?

crossfade

Postby jamesfrmphilly on Sun Mar 16, 2003 11:09 am

Nero is more stable by far on my system, i have it.
i don't use it because they do not have a preview feature on their crossfade and Roxio does.
Nero does'nt have the functionality and Roxio doesn't have stability.
it would be nice if Nero was brought up to date.
i've ordered ECDC 6 in the hopes that it will be stable on my machine.
