Firmware problems...

Postby eXecutioner on Fri Mar 21, 2003 9:44 pm

I have problems with instaling new firmware on my LG 8480b recorder. I downloaded from a site 1.5 version. When I upgrade it is still the same. Where to download the proper firmware?

thanx

Tried, but nothing changed. It upgrades, says complete, than I close the updater, but nothing changes. I have revision 1.02. Where to find 1.03 and 1.04? How to solve the problem?

You can get version 1.04 from the American LG web site:

http://www.lgeservice.com/GCE-8480B104(ew).zip

Try setting the transfer mode of the drive to PIO before flashing and then return it to DMA afterwards. LG also recommends having the drive as secondary master on its own IDE channel when flashing. This generally isn't necessary, but if you are having trouble it might help.

Use this JE5LGJ15.HEX file with MTK WinFlash or with the real mtkflash and see if they work better. Maybe you could send me a binary backup of your current firmware and after you flash too...

Downloads and instructions. The command for backing up is the same as on that page, but flashing is different. To flash with the JE5LGJ15.HEX file you would use this command:
Code: Select all
mtkflash X w JE5LGJ15.HEX

You can also use MTK WinFlash to flash, but the backup must be made in DOS.

you said you did update your firmware? you almost always either have to restart and/or shutdown your computer for a like 10 seconds, then just start her up again, then go into lik nero and see what the firmware version says

Please read again the instructions dhc014 gave you. Within those instructions (right at the top as part of step 1, in fact) you will find links to resources for creating DOS boot discs.

No, I don't, although that might make for a handy way to do DOS based flash backups and updates. It would be particularly convenient for those who are using NTFS and find the space on a floppy limiting. Please let us know if you can get it to work.

Nero says my firmware is 1.05!!!! But I have on my recorder two lights, and someone said that with version 1.05 you loose the left one. I didn't also see an option for burning with 52x.
