Burn baby burn!

samsung 248f

hi, i just got a new samsung 248f last night and hopefully someone can help me out. after i installed the drive, i put in a music cd to test it out. it worked beautifully. then, i tried burning a cd at 48x speed. it was going good until the end parts of the burn when the actual burn speed went down to 1x and it seemed like the session had frozen. i was about to cancel the session when it started again. it finished and a log popped up to show me what the errors were. i saw on another forum for asus a7n8x nforce2 boards (which is what i have) that i should try installing a aspi layer from the adaptec website. now, my cdrw drive doesnt read any type of cd, whether it's a cd-r, music cd, etc. did i mess up the laser when i tried burning at 48x speed or is there some other problem. thx for your help in advance.

i upgraded to the newest firmware, but that didn't help. i think it might be the laser because the disc is spinning and all i hear is a noise that sounds like it's trying to read the disc, but can't. it keeps making the same noise every 5 seconds then i guess it determines that there is no disc in the drive.

WELL I WOULD SUGGEST CLEANING OF THE LENS BUT AS IT IS A NEW ONE I DONT THINK THIS MIGHT WORK I FEEL U WOULD RATHER PUT UR WARRANTY IN ACTION OR RATHER EXCHANE IT WITH UR VENDOR

Check all the cables or try try the drive on a different ide channel.
I have a 248f too, it works great but it can be quirky.
