Let's just hope that the LTR-52326S makes it to the market.

Or at least its firmware...

LTR-52246k?

Weird... I know "S" usually means it has a Sanyo PUH and H a Hitachi, but I've never seen a K before.

48246K drives have started popping up randomly. If you didn't notice, the firmware for this drive is available. It is not compatible with 6S drives though, only reading works.

See: Anyone care to try the LTR-48246K firmware?

What is a PUH as I see posted or written on this forum ,and if the Liteon has a S after it's model number it means that the PUH is manufactured by Sanyo. So i.e my Liteon which is a LTR 48246S, the PUH in mine would be manufactured by Sanyo.

I have heard of the K models before, but I haven't ever owned one before. Also, what does the W stand for, as in 48125W?

I can't wait for the 52327S; my 32123S (32x12x40x) doesn't seem as fast as it used to, especially with CD-RW! At least Lite-On changed it to P-CAV.

PUH = pick-up head - the optical/laser assembly that does the actual writing and reading.

to the best of my knowledge, Winbond manufacture chips, not optical devices.
so this naming scheme is unlikely.

a while ago there was another theory floating about: the letter has to do with the manufacturer of the chip (LSI):
S=STI
W=Winbond.

this is all speculation and rumor anyway.

Not anymore it isn't, at least for DVD devices: 8)

I imagine the same holds for CD-RW. I suppose we could ask Mr. Wang directly.
