Ever buy a drive, just "because"?

Ever buy a drive, just "because"?

Postby Robotnik on Wed Apr 16, 2003 12:09 am

I just bought a BTC 52/24/52 burner because it was cheap and the box looked nice. When I already have a Memorex 52Maxx, a MSI 40x and a DVDRW which also burns CDs. I did the same thing recently with a Cyberdrive DVD-ROM on sale (when I already have 2 other 16x DVD-ROMs) and also a month or two back with a cheap set-top DVD Player (when I already own another). Do I have a problem and should I seek help?? Of course, it is not like I am short of cash or anything and optical drives seem to be my only weakness of this kind really.

I haven't done it, but I've come awfully close. I have to fight myself regularly when I peruse the Hot Deals forum and tell myself that even though the drives are incredibly cheap, I really don't need another.

I bought one of those BUSlink 52x drives that was on sale for $19.99 at Best Buy a few weeks ago just because it was cheap and it was the last Lite-On one left. I eventually sold it to a friend since I already have a TDK 48x CD-RW drive.

I did that one time with a CenDyne 32x (almost a year ago) because it was cheap and my 12x Creative (Lite-On) seemed slow. Now, I am forcing myself to wait until the LTR-52327S comes out before I buy another CD-RW...

*cough* Yes. *cough* :D :D

I'm now in a twelve-step program. :D :D :D :D :D I think I saw Robotnik there, but I can't be too sure. :D :D :D :D
My solution to the Plextor vs. Lite-On debate: Buy 'em both! :)

Any idea as to what merits will it feature that the LTR-52326S doesn't interlace (aside from the 32X ReWrites)?

I thought I read that there wouldn't ever be a LTR-52326S. Did I miss something?

That model name showed up on a list of supported drives for some software. I forget which.

NTI something. NTI CD Burner? NTI CD Writer Plus? Can't remember the exact name, I know it was NTI though.

You are not "short of cash or anyting" and sine optical drives seem to be your only weakness, burn baby burn. It is your money and you only live once. What is the point of working hard and making money (you are short) if you can not enjoy it. You are entitled buy anything and eveything your heart desires, as long as you don't owe anyone money and you have enough stashed aside for rainy days.

As far as I can see, you only have one problem: You don't give me any money ;)

aviationwiz:

LTR-52326S is supported by Acoustica's MP3 CD Burner, Ahead's Nero and InCD, Alcohol 120%, B's Recorder GOLD5, Cyberlink's PowerProducer, NTI's CD-Maker, Roxio's Creator, and probably many others; just google! 8)

I did that with CD-R's for awhile, went crazy buying them last year every time a rebate sale went on. Now I have 10 50 packs of Taiyo Uden made CD-R's (Fuji, TDK and Memorex) and 2 75 packs of Prodiscs that will proably last me for 2-3 years.

For CD drives im buying ONLY Lite-On (that come with Nero) drives now - I have bought so many cheap-ass CD-ROM drives that wouldnt play some discs, couldnt rip mp3's at high speeds, made lots of noise and vibrated the whole case or (for burners) couldnt burn all brands of CD-R's.

I bought the Buslink 52X $19.99 Best Buy deal because it was a Lite-On, It worked great but after 3 weeks the tray jammed up on it (I think the tray motor died - it just stopped working!) and had to take it back.

The cashier gave me the full price refund instead of subtracting the rebate from it (I even had the bar code cut out)! So I'm making some money from this deal. Thanks Best Buy! :D

I just bought a McAfee VirusScan at Fry's because it was 100% rebate. My Norton is good for another year. Maybe my nephew can use it.

Don't worry man...

I've got it worse than you... I have two TDK drives already.. One Plextor is on the way and I'm contemplating buying a Sony CD-RW. Already bought every brand of media that I could find locally. Without knowing it, I kinda went off on a quest to find the best combination of CD-RW drives and media. I'm just sick and tired of hitting and missing with these things. This may be futile but I'm learning alot.

Aside from this... went and bought a 21" monitor, the Sony DRU500-AX, and a WD SE 200 Gb drive (when I already have both the 100 Gb and 120 GB versions plus at least a half a dozen of other HDs of various sizes). With the new DVD writer... went and bought DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RW media. I expect DVD media to be no different than CD-R media... maybe worse in compatibility. DVD media unfortunately is more expensive.. spent a $100 doing this.... just on media alone.

okay... I'll just stop here. I need help and I know it. Worst thing is that it's impacting me financially.. big time.

I should mention that I do alot of video editing, digi photo editing, and audio CD creation as a hobby/work. So some of this stuff is justified.... right?

yeah... whatever....

regretfully proud gadget/electronics junkie!
