Where to buy CD-RWs?

Postby xeetim on Mon Apr 21, 2003 10:49 pm

Where can I buy CD-RWs that isn't made by Memorex? Every store I go to seem to only stock Memorex. Are there any other company that makes CD-RWs and where can I get them?

Verbatim - found at amazon.com, buy.com, etc. Use your favorite search engine for more

Jensen - they used to sell these at Circuit City, and I assume they still do

Although people have reported success with the Jensen discs, Verbatim is the overwhelming preference.

There are also TDK, Sony, Yamaha, and Imation branded CD-RW disc. I would stay away from Imation CD-RW disc though.

Actually, if you are interested in buying CD-RW media at retail stores in the U.S., Fry's isn't the only choice. Microcenter has a good selection of Verbatim CD-RW discs, including the Verbatim Ultra Speed CD-RW discs.
Verbatim or Yamaha CD-RW discs are the best overall. Those Yamaha discs are Fry's are very good also, but they are pricey. I would first forget the idea of getting 700 MB 80 minute CD-RW discs unless you want 4x CD-RW discs--here in the U.S., only Verbatim 4x CD-RW discs can be bought in the 700 MB size. All other Verbatim CD-RW discs--I mean those that high speed and ultra speed are 650 MB in size here in the U.S. What I am saying is that the two best brands in CD-RW discs, Verbatim and Yamaha, do not sell the 700 MB size here in the U.S., except for the Verbatim 4x CD-RW discs.

In short, buy Verbatim CD-RW discs online or at Microcenter. I say this because the Yamaha CD-RW discs are more pricey and therefore not desireable for most people. As for online vendors, I bought my Verbatim CD-RW discs from buy.com, but there are many online vendors selling them.

For 80-minute CD-RW discs sold in a retail store, definitely check out the Jensens found at Circuit City...as cfitz pointed out.
