Are the dimensions of motherboards universal?

Postby Wedge Maniac on Tue May 20, 2003 6:12 pm

i.e., if I were to ask you the dimensions of your motherboard, would they necessarily be the same as mine?

The reason I ask this question is because a freind is shipping me a motherboard in the mail and I am supposed to provide him the box and packaging materials. I am not sure how to go about doing this as I have never seen a motherboard in its retail package (not sure of the size and appropriate methods for protecting it).

It has got to go a long way, so I want to ensure its safety. Any tips in this area would be helpful.

no, not all are the same size. I dunno, the motherboard boxes I've seen were about the size of a 3 ring binder. I would send something about that size and then a box for that to go in....with lots of packing peanuts or newspaper.

It's an Asus P4 board. Don't know if that helps or not, but thanks for that tip. I'll use 2 boxes like you suggest.

go to www.asus.com, find your motherboard in the Products section, look for Specs, it will give the dimensions of the motherboard (Length x Width).

example: P4T533
http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?langs=09&m=P4T533
look at the bottom (Form Factor)

There are 2 sizes:
1.ATX
2.mini-ATX
same width but mini-ATX is 2in(5cm) shorter.

not all motherboards of a given form factor, say ATX, are of identical size.
hence my suggestion to look it up in the mfg. website.
