I guess I don't follow the news very much. Why is this the last Air France Concorde flight and why is British Airways bailing out (figuratively and perhaps literally) on the Concorde? Are there any talks of a replacement aircraft?

The two airlines can simply not afford to keep the Concorde flying. There are no plans for another supersonic transport (SST)

Jeez. I'd love a ride on the Concorde! Anyone got links to pictures of the interior?

Yes, they did.

I have a few friends who flew the Concorde. The interior is really tight, as the fuselage of the plane is intended to be small as possible for best aerodynamics and fuel economony.

You'd get much better comfort from a 777 first class seat, as a comparison. However, nothing says first class like flying on a Concorde. I'm sorry I never got a chance to do it, but it's not a big regret...

What a shame. I just read this blurb:

" Though the Sonic Cruiser created quite a stir in the aviation community, both the airlines and Boeing became less and less enthusiastic as the post-September 11 recession hit the airline industry. The sudden drop in air travel coupled with high development costs and Boeing's failure to convince airlines that shorter travel times were desirable quickly took their toll on the fledgling concept. As a result, Boeing officially shelved the high-speed plane on 20 December 2002. Instead, the company intends to refocus its efforts on a conventional cousin of the Sonic Cruiser. This design, referred to as Project Yellowstone, makes use of many of the advanced technologies proposed for the Sonic Cruiser to create a "super-efficient" airliner with significantly lower operating costs than today's aircraft. "

So, in ebonics, flying on a Concorde IS really tight!

As a Brit, may I join in your grief

An example of what we French and British can achieve together when we put our minds to it :D

Damn the 70s oil crisis for putting the muckers on things
