How many computers do you own?

Postby CDRecorder on Sun Jun 01, 2003 1:57 am

I have 5 that run, and I am currently building a sixth out of really old spare parts.

Systems:

Gateway Solo 1450 Laptop
Celeron 1.2GHz
512 MB PC133 SDRAM
20GB Hard Drive
Matshita UJDA340 8x8x24 CD-RW

ABIT KT7A 1.3
Athlon Thunderbird 1.2GHz
1024 MB PC133 SDRAM (running at PC100 speeds)
60GB Maxtor HDD
Lite-On LTR-48125W 48x12x48 CD-RW
Benq 4824P 48x24x48 CD-RW

Daewoo CB649M-SI
Celeron 366MHz
256 MB PC100 SDRAM (running at PC66 speeds)
60GB Maxtor HDD
Philips PCRW1208 12x8x36 CD-RW
Lite-On LTR-12101B 12x10x32 CD-RW

Daewoo CB649M-SI (this isn't a duplicate, I do have two machines with this board)
Celeron 366MHz
288 MB SD-RAM (PC100 and PC133, running at PC66 speeds)
30GB Maxtor HDD
Lite-On LTR-32123S 32x12x40 CD-RW
Top-G (Hi-Val) 52x CD-ROM

Gateway 4DX2/66V
486DX2 CPU running at 66MHz
40MB FPM DRAM
4GB Maxtor HDD
Samsung 32x CD-ROM

FIC 486 motherboard (this is the system that I am putting together from spare parts)
486DX4 OverDrive CPU running at 100MHz
24MB FPM DRAM
6GB Quantum Fireball HDD
EDEE 16x CD-ROM (anyone heard of these?)

Edit: I put the poll back. I used to have one, but I must have accidentally deleted it. :(

Edit Again: Now all of the poll options show up twice, and I can't change it when I "edit" the post! Can one of the admins fix this?

Yet Another Edit: The poll is gone again! What's going on? :-?

3 assembled and working right now, although I always have spare parts coming in and out of here all the time. I could put together another PC if I so desire, but it would just be a vanity machine anyway, so who cares? :P

I kinda have 2 but most of the family computers here are built from my spare parts. My sister here has the other one in the house but it's all my parts. I also have a couple of complete mother boards that could be made into boxes if I got a case or 2 and a few parts.

I'd write home about your axe and amp setup, F1Pilot. :) Hook it up to your puter and do some recording! Got any effects pedals?

Hmm, lets see...

- 2 laptops (Relatively new Toshiba 5205-S703 and an older Toshiba 2805-S202)

- 3 computers at home, two pentium I's, and an Athlon XP 1800+. The Athlon is my desktop machine with 512MB ram, abit kr7a-133raid, Yamaha 20x burner, Geforce 4 MX420 64MB, Geforce2 MX 64MB, 2 19" Viewsonic GS790's, 160GB 8MB hard drive (raid 5, 3 80gb maxtors).

- 3 computers at work (two Pentium II's and one pentium I, which hopefully they'll either buy replacements and I can get them back, or they'll buy off of me)

- 1 Cyrix (can't remember the speed, i remember it was similar to a PII), and 3 really old computers (8086, 386, and 486DX2) sitting in the corner. Might just have those recycled.

Most of these computers had been given to me when I build new computers for friends. Rather than charge them labor, I just offer to take the old one off their hands (or what's left of it), and I slap linux on it. Maybe one of these days I'll start up a cluster... :)

socheat, what do you do with all these old and slow computers, other than run Linux on them?

Those really old ones (Cyrix, 8086, 386, and 486) are just collecting dust in the corner of my apt. I could probably put the Cyrix to use, but I don't have a need right now.

All the others are serving some function or another either at work or my apartment. Webservers, mail servers, database servers, backup server etc.
