KProbe with Sony DRU500 or 510?

Postby Halc on Sat May 31, 2003 7:40 pm

Will KProbe work with Sony DRU500 or 510 drives for "Write strategy" (CD) and "Tilt Analysis" (DVD) testing?

I have understood that current Lite-On dvd-recordable drives (the dual format models) are based on the Sony drives?

I'm asking because I can get Sony dvd-/+rw drives, but not the LiteOns, but would like to have drive for testing dvd-/+r disc burn quality.

I understand that the LDW-400d does not work with Kprobe, but that LDW-401 does.

Does this mean that Sony drives won't work with Kprobe and that LDW-401 is a LiteOn drive not OEM sourced from Sony?

Sorry, this is all too confusing for me at this time of night :)

From what I understand, the LDW-401 is designed in house by Lite-On.

The only reason they are using the Sony DRU-500A for the LDW-400D is because they made such a big deal about them having a DVD writer out by May.

To make a long story short, I really don't know if the LDW-400D works with KProbe or not.

Mine does not work with Kprobe. I spose if LiteOn uses their own version of firmware you might be able to do a flash and convert it to work. I just use my 52x buslink/Liteon cdrw and not worry about the Sony.

Thanks for the information guys.

Now the next logical question is:

When will Plextor come out with a DVD+/-RW of their own design and when will they upgrade PlexTools to include quality analysis tests for DVD discs as well?

Ian, maybe you could ask your this from your Plextor sources?

I'm sure many of us here would be interested in this.

I can ask, but you know how Plextor is. They don't spill the beans on new stuff until they're ready.
