NEC ND-1300

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

NEC ND-1300

Postby melsmed on Sun Jun 01, 2003 6:08 am

I'm about to place a order for this drive, but I cannot find any info the brands of media that are compatible with this drive (except the really expensive ones).

Can anyone tell me if the Ritek's works with this drive? Either dvd-r, rw and dvd+r, rw.

Thanks in advance.

Have had success with Ritek unbranded DVD-R x 4 - at long last was wondering if I had made the right decision buying this DVD by NEC! Am looking forward to firmware upgrade so that I can use other cheapie media.

Just ordered the drive from Mwave and some Ritek DVD-R media from Rima.com.

I'll try those when everything arrives and I will post the results.

Thanks for the help.

I sended a mgs to NEC USA and this is the answer I got from them, not too friendly, if you ask me. I asked if it was any plans in posting any firmware updates in the USA site. I hope I didn't make a mistake in buying this drive.

"This is an OEM drive and is sold in bulk, bare drive only, NEC has no direct support for the drive, all updates are distributed to the OEM channels, you will need to check with vendor for updates.

Warranty services and technical support for the end users of NEC's disk drives are the responsibility of the distributor, wholesaler or retailer from which the unit was purchased. Please return DEFECTIVE DISK DRIVES to the point of purchase. NEC does not offer a pass-through warranty on disk drives.

Yeah, that's what you get when you buy an OEM drive.

If you want retail, CenDyne/Verbatim sells the ND-1300 in their drive kits.

I was looking in Mwave and they have the DRU-510 for US$ 308. So I cancelled the order for the NEC and instead, I'm getting a nice, well supported, DRU-510. In this case, I think that the US$ 80 difference is worth it.

Thanks for all your help.

If the drive si the same then ove rin Europe wouldn't the firmware updates from the European sites work? I hope something works because I bought this drive and it is supposed to be arriving today.
