DVD-/+R on DVD Video Players

Postby ryus on Mon Jun 02, 2003 12:46 am

I currently have a Panasonic RP82 Dvd Player,it says it can play DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs. So if someone burnt a DVD video on a DVD+R disc, will my player be able to read it?This goes for other DVD players also, thanks.

The dvdrhelp.com site is an excellent resource for this sort of question:

Good link. As a rule of thumb I have found that if a standalone specifically states that it supports one format, it will 99% of the time support the other.

I'd say that in terms of modern (<1yo) DVD playback equipment, around 95-99% will play back both formats with no problems, media quality notwithstanding.

Or nearly 100%. Most new DVD players released or announced these days in Japan and South Korea seem to clearly state they can play both DVD-R(W) and DVD+R(W).

Has anyone tried to play DVD-Rs on a Sony DAV-S400?
At DVDRHelp they say it's compatible with both + and - but I couldn't find anyone on the net confirming this hypothesis...

I have the 300. It's one of the most -R - friendly drives I've ever come across, even playing some terrible quality discs.

Actually 300 seems to be compatible with -R while 400 seems to be not ,even though I don't know the differences between 300 and 400...
