My NEC-1300 Results.

Postby Raz0rX on Tue Jun 10, 2003 9:13 pm

I just got my NEC-1300 today, and I did some testing on it using the 1.05 firmware that came with the drive.

Data CDR (79 mins): 31.24x
Audio CDR (79 mins): 26.32x
Write CD-R @ 16x (79 mins): 5:22
Write a DVD-R (4446mb, Optodisc) @ 2x: 27 minutes and 33 seconds

And also, the drive came with no RPC lock!

To my surprise, I used the NEC drive to read back the recorded DVD-R (4.34GB), it had an avg. speed of only 2.06x.

And when I tried it with my Liteon 166s, the speed is only a bit faster. That makes me wanna get another DVD reader :x

Could it be because I used a 2x DVD-R media?

I tried that DVDR disc on my Liteon 163D with latest firmware, the read-ability was even worst (took so long to recognize the disc).

OK, this might have asked many times but what tool can I use for identifying the true mfg. of DVD media? I tried the refresh trick in the latest Nero, but it's not showing.

Thanks.

OK, I know why the first DVD that I burnt was read back "so-slow" by other DVD readers. The first disc I burnt as a "DVD Multi-session".

Then I burnt another disc today, using "DVD single-session". My 166s recognizes the disc very quickly 8)

I did a speed test in CDSpeed, got 5.21x avg. read speed when using 166s.

I have this drive as well and I have had no problems burning any discs, data or video. I've been using Memorex DVD+r and DVD-r discs as well as Fujifilm DVD+RW discs. While these discs are not rated for 4X speeds, they still have all worked.

Hey anyCOpunk, did you mean your Memorex DVD-R or DVD+R can be burnt @ 4x or just 2x?

Thanks.

the -r can only be burnt at 2x and the +r can only be burnt at 2.4x. Sorry fo rthe misunderstanding. I haven't gotten my hands on any 4x media, so I haven't been able to try those speeds out.

This is my first DVD writer, and like it very much. I couldn't wait any longer to see the next LG multi-format writer or the Pioneer A06.

But this writer is really cheap yet works well for me, probably due to no support from NEC.
