DVD Shrink version 2 out!

Postby BurninMan921 on Tue Jun 10, 2003 1:05 am

Version 2.0 of DVD Shrink is out;

http://www.dvdshrink.org/

has download links if you're interested.

It has some bugs fixed, but I never noticed any in 1.03. The rip times have greatly increased if te movie needs to be compressed; HOWEVER, the quality is much, much better at high compression. Much nicer!! I copied the movie Heat no problem with 2.0, couldn't with 1.03 (quality sucked to much...).

They've completely revamped the interface, too. Now the easy-to-use, step-by-step screens are gone. Everythings on one screen. I kinda like the old one better, but the new one is still easy to use. Just tougher for a newbie to pick up.

FYI 2.1 beta is out as well. I think you can actually mess wtih compression in 5% increments.

Let us know your results. Especially if you can do a comparison with DVD2One, 2.0 and 2.1 Beta.

From what I hear, the compression algorithm in 2.1 is completely different from 2.0.

Heard some feedback on the 2.1 Beta, it is definitely a beta product. Buggy with the occasional crash.

Does it Look good?

Postby nXt on Tue Jun 10, 2003 8:35 pm

My brother has been using DVDShrink 1.3 and then I found DVD2One, and told him about and I compared some DVDs made by each and DVD2One's quality is way superior to DVDShrink's.

I know DVDShrink lets you control more of the process, but does anyone know if 2.0 or even 2.1 Beta looks better than 1.3? 1.3 is just horribly ugly. :) (We copied the same DVD, FULL disc, DVD2One looks better).

Thanks.

Someone on CDfreaks did a comparison, same quality between DVDShrink 2.0 and DVD2One, compression time is much faster as well.

Gurgenpb said he was going to do a comparison, I'll be interested to see his results.

FYI most of the time, when a new rev comes out, it's fairly safe to assume that the product has been improved.

It's free, so why don't you give it a try and let us know how it compares to 2One.
