Don't Need High-End 3D Card ?

Postby TidusTheCoolest on Wed Jun 11, 2003 3:07 pm

Is it true that I don't need such a high-end graphic card such as ATI Radeon 9800 Pro if the types of games I play is stratergy ? People told me that it's only needed for FPS games . Is it true ?

In general, strategy games are more CPU intensive.

FPS are more GPU intensive.

Having said that, it's a riot when I play monopoly and my AIW 9700 CHUGS along.....

Do you play another other types of games?

Sim's [driving, flight] ?

RPG's ?

etc....?

I guess you should get a 9700 Pro then.

It should last you a few years at least.

How do you think about R9800 Pro 128 MB version ?

Will it last longer than 9700 Pro ?

Heh,

Don't get trapped into thinking you always need the latest and greatest or you'll never end up getting anything.

Honestly I've only read a few things about the 9800 and I think it's not vastly better than the 9700 Pro.

You're probably better off with the 9700 Pro for the types of games you play, but it's really up to you. Personally I think the 9700 Pro will be more than enough for most users.

I'd say go for a Radeon 9600 Pro based card. Very reasonable and yields have been pretty good so you can literally OC the hell out of it.

Here's a good little roundup of ATI cards.
