After Burning, Bunch of icons on my desktop, won't delete.

I have wav. files on my HD that I've burned with no problems. I tried tonight to burn my first (with Nero) Copy of a CD. After I was done, I found a whole bunch of icons on my Desktop. I tried to delete them but they will not Delete!
How do I get rid of these icons? I can tell they are form Nero. What happend? Thank you, Chris.

How do you know they are from Nero? What sorts of filenames do they show? Can you post a screen capture? (hit Print Screen, then go into some photo editor or paint or something and use the "paste" function).

Have you tried restarting your computer and then trying to delete them?

I tried rebooting. I think I said OK to save a database when burning in nero.

I have 288 total icons. I can't see all of them since they won't all fit on the screen. How do I post the screen? I have it saved.

Nero's CD database (titles/artists/tracks) stores information in .idx files, and can generate quite a number of them. Were you copying audio CD's? Do the files have the extension .idx? If so, then there is a good chance you have the local database enabled and the path set to your desktop.

In Nero, click "File"->"Preferences...", and then select the "Database" tab and see whether or not you have the "Use local Nero CD database" enabled (check mark in "Program database path:" or "User database path") and, if so, if the paths point to your desktop where you are seeing all the files.

If you don't have access to a web server and can't post your screen shot, then at least tell us the full names and extensions of a sampling of the files.

I finally got rid of them. I did "Start, files & folders, *idx, delete.

It was set to desktop in database. I unchecked it. With no database, what will happen or not happen? Are they kind of like TIF files in ie where they just keep on acumalating?

It is no big deal for most people. The main effect of not using a local database is that Nero has to go to the Internet to get title/artist/track information if you want it. I think most people have it set up that way anyway, because that way you can get the latest information as new CDs are released, and you don't have to store a huge database of rarely used information on your hard drive.

The other effect is that you won't be able to store your own custom information (either additions/corrections/enhancements to what is posted on the Internet or data for music that is entirely of your own making). Again, for most people this isn't an issue.

By the way, GIF, JPG, HTML etc files stored by IE in the Temporary Internet Files folder should't grow without bound. Check your cache settings.

fyi, Final count was 1,503 files. That is a heck of a lot of files for one CD. I thnk that is a big fault in nero. 1,503 for one CD!!!!
Just think if I did 50 CD's. What a wast of HD Space.

Those weren't all filled with the data from one CD. Nero built a database structure designed to hold information on thousands and thousands of CDs. Thus, it created all those files. However, had you looked at the files before deleting you probably would have seen that virtually all of them were empty (containing just 30 bytes of header information), and the total disc space used was less than 100 KiBytes. Also, the number of files would not increase (at least not significantly) as you added more CDs. The individual files that were already created when Nero first made the database would be populated with the information. This is not a fault in Nero.

OK, thanks, I get it. I really like Nero alot better then the easy CD creator I was useing.

I'm waiting on a shipment of 99 minute CD's that I can use the Overburning in nero. I didn't have that option in easy cd.
