LiteOn 165H vs 166S?

LiteOn 165H vs 166S?

Postby Seamus on Fri Jul 04, 2003 7:31 am

What's the difference between the 165H and the 166S?

There are very few online stores in Australia that sell the 166S - most sell only the 165H. A couple, however, list the LiteOn 16x DVD-ROM as 165H/166S. What gives?

EDIT: Thanks to vbl117, I finally found the official website that lists these drives - JLMS, not LiteOn. The trouble is, they use the same page to describe each drive. No answer there.

See http://digi.rpc1.org/165_166.htm, and be sure to mouse over the word improvements on the page to reveal the list of differences.

Thanks, cfitz. I just found that site myself, actually. Now I just have to figure out if it's worth the few extra bucks for the improvements. What do you think?

I think there's a region free hack for the 165 but not for the 166, going from memory so don't quote me.

The rpcde2 utility you speak of works on Lite-On 163, 165, and 166.

 Happy to be useful ( Dimitri was the first to report this information on his website ) .
If it was me i would look if if the 166 costs 5 dollars more than the 165 ( if not i would go for the 166 , either i would go for the 165 )
