Verbatim DVD-R bulk pack at Sam's Club - 2x or 4x?

Postby bebrewer1 on Tue Jul 08, 2003 9:58 pm

I was going to order a 25 pack of 4x Ritek G04 from www.allmediaoutlet.com for $41.xx shipped but I saw a pack of 25 Verbatim DVD-Rs for $37 before tax at my local Sam's club. I think that would be a good deal for 4x media but not so hot a deal for 2x media. Has anyone purchased these or can someone give me a pointer on how to tell without purchasing?

I thought I read somewhere that Verbatim's were now made by CMC, which, if true might make me think twice based on the rep of that media.

Thanks :D

Verbatim, as far as I know, only uses Mitsubishi Chemicals now.

Just look on the box, it should say if they are 2x or 4x. If it doesn't say, you should assume that they are 2x.

Gotcha, I'll assume these are only 2X then. I think $1.65 per for the 4X Riteks from allmedia would be a better deal than $1.61 per for the 2X Verbatims.

Is the Verbatim media quality on par with Ritek in the DVD-R world? I know that Pioneer & Apple make good media but I'm not going to spend $5 a blank 8)

Ritek's are good in my opinion, I think my Memorex and TDK disks are re-badged Ritek.

I think Verbatim is the second best though, behind Apple.

Good place to go to check out the comments from folks that have used the media.

I bought one of those 25 packs of verbatim data life plus as they say on the disks. They are made by CMC even though the spindle specifically says mitsubishi chemical on the outside. They are 2x too. The TDK 20 pack I bought at Target last week were 2x Riteks.
