what speed cd-rw do you use?

Postby msuiter on Wed Jul 09, 2003 12:56 pm

i think my liteon is a 52x24x52x and i rarely use cd-rw media but i'm thinking about it for backing up pictures. what speed cd-rw do you use? i don't even think i've seen 24x -rw media out there. most places have 10x-12x. is that about the best i'll find without paying a premium?

The last -RW I used was a 12x, because that's all I have.

I use -RW maybe twice a year, so it is not a good investment for me to buy 24x media or 32x media when it comes around.

Just buy some 10x or 12x media. It won't be a problem. Just try to get high quality media like Verbatim.

I use 4x cd-rw's since they were given to me free. I don't trust them since they are memorex (infodisc). :(
I am though going to pick up some verbatim dlp 16x-24x rw's from what I have read they are good rw's.
You can order them from buy.com http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10332676&hdwt=0&loc=2091 these look to be a good price for ultra speed cd-rw's.

I use 12x since that's all that I have. 24x would be fun to play with, but I'm just glad that I don't have to burn at 4x (slow as heck).

I use whatever is lying around. I have 4x (Verbatim, Ricoh) and some 10x. For the most part I do tend to use the 24x Verbatim UltraSpeed, especially fo test burns- it's so much faster (even though the LTR 48246S is slow at 24x CAV)!

The downside is that not all burners will handle this yet. If I transfer stuff from work, I'm limited to 10x because that's all the burners there will do.

I use 10-12x most of the time because I haven't had the chance to get any 24x media yet. I do have some older 4x media, though.

Whoa...sorry had to get that off my chest.

I saw something on I think it was cdfreaks with a cd speed graph of the premium and 32x mitsubishi media. I think I'll get that 32x Media when it is availible to the public.

What's this "CD-RW" thingie? Is it like a DVD+RW disc? :)
2.4x DVD+RW, when I need to test a video disc I'm not 100% sure will work. Haven't used CD-RWs in a VERY, VERY long time...like back when 16x10x40 CD-RW drives where the "newest and fastest"...

Just no use for 'em...

I use both 24x & 10x Verbatim RW discs. I bought the 10x before the 12x speed discs were available.

Both speeds are flawless with the LTR-52246S

When I do use CD-RW's, which isn't often, I usually use 10X. I only have one 4X.

lol, you must be pretty young to consider that (16x10x40) a "very, very long time ago".. I remember when 4x2x24 was the newest and hottest and I bought one for just over $200.. still have it, runs well. newer CD-RW's aren't even compatible with the 2x RW burners... but older CD-R media works well.

Keep in mind that 24x writing is still pretty new.. I think it became available within the last year.. before that we were stuck at 12 and 10 for a while...

I still remember my old HP 10x4x32 drive that I bought for $300 about 4 years back. It was top of the line when it was bought. I don't know where it is now, I lost it.
