Make sure the drive is selected in the drop-down. Hit the confirm button... the tray should open. Take any media out, if there isn't any in there, just leave it alone.

Hit Start and it will say the computer needs to be rebooted. Hit OK.

When the computer reboots, it'll update the firmware when you get to the desktop.

Reading the instructions is always a good idea.

I have the same problem :
I launch the exe, hit the confirm button and then the start update button.
It asks me to restart, and after restarting, before showing the start menu, the application launches again

However, when i push the update button, nothing happen at all ....

If somebody can Help, it would be great

I finally got the solution this morning :
You have to uninstall intel application accelerator, set your driver to pio mode, and then .... follow the instruction ;)

I don't now if intel application accelerator is responsible of the problem,, or if the drive must be in Pio mode, but you can't set the drive to pio mode with intel application accelerator installed ...

Good luck !

What differences have you found with the new firmware? Can you post them?

well i didn't need to change the drive to PIO, but i also didn't have application accel installed at the time

so far ive seen true 4x dvd-r burning with princo's, before it used to say 4x in nero, but would still take 30 minutes to burn, meaning 2x

i don't use any other blank dvds so i don't know about the rest of the results

so i really think that intel application accelerator prevent the software to update the bios !

I'll try this evening to burn a datawrite 4X certified that I used to burn at only 2X .. I hope it will work !

BTW, the instructions DID SAY to uninstall that Intel program and set to PIO mode, so you do have to read the instructions :)

firmware can be found at the support pages at:
www.storagebysony.com

and the fix i found is that 4x burning on princos is now possible (15 minute burn)

if you want firmware go to the source:

http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

storage by sony works too, just that firmware page is moocho better, heck they even had the new plextor premium firmware before plextor's own site

This is ridiculous.

1- Uninstall IAA, reboot.
2- Change to PIO, reboot.
3- Launch the program, reboot.
4- Update gets installed, reboot.
5- Install IAA, reboot.

I feel that I'm missing a couple more of reboots, lost count in between those reboots.

Anyway, my Princos are still burning at 2X, didn't tried it with Nero, only with Easy CD 6 Plt.

Your english is fine, it's your reading comprehension that needs some work.

I didn't put it in PIO, worked fine.

IAA seems to cause more problems than anything, always has. There isn't really tangible any performance increase if you use it from an end user perspective.

As I said, follow the instructions.
