Enabling Sony's "turbo boost" feature on LiteOn 48

Does anybody know of a way to enable Sony's turbo boost feature on a LiteOn 48246S.

That is, I would like to reset the max read speed of my drive using this feature to 40x while retaining the max 52x speed using the eject button.

However, I'd still like to retain the media compatibility of later LiteOn firmwares, so just flashing blindly to a Sony firmware is not a solution (I think).

Is there a solution that fits this problem?

I'd be interested in finding out how this firmware feature affects the drive's error reading accuracy in KProbe, if it does anything at all.

I have heard that you can limit the speed with Nero DriveSpeed, but I've never really used it.

You can limit the reading speed using Nero DriveSpeed.
You'll have to start DriveSpeed in Windows, and then detect the speed parameters for the drive. You'll then get a drop down box with the read speeds you need, starting from "maximum" downward. Select the read speed you want, say 40X, and then put DriveSpeed in your Startup folder (I'm assuming that you are using Windows). It'll limit the read speed to whatever you have set,but the burn speed will be a function of your burning software.

Thanks, I know I can use Nero Drive Speed to limit my LiteOn.

However, as we don't know what are the exact changes in the Sony's "Turbo boost" feature compared to LiteOn 48246s, I cannot be sure this accomplishes the same thing.

Guess I'll just have to flash the Sony firmware and try out.

It works fine Only thing is, Lite-On original firmwares are MUCH better in the media-compatibility department.

As for the Turbo-Boost, here's a description from the Sony Australia website, for the CRX220 52/24/52. I assume the same will apply to the CRX215 48/24/48 model.

"Like Sony's other high performance drives this unit features dual speed modes. Normal Mode (18-40X) is for general operation where media quality is variable &/or unkown; it improves readability, reduces the need for retrys and reduces the potential for disk &/or drive damage. When Turbo mode is selected the motor speed increased to maximum (10,300rpm) and enables the full 52X Max performance"

I assume that 18-40X is for both reading and writing data. Turbo mode is selected by holding the 'eject' button for 3 seconds or something like that, and then the LED will flash thrice. Ian has covered this in his CRX220 review.
