Plextor Premium C1/C2 scan reliability from unit to unit?

Postby Halc on Wed Jul 16, 2003 3:10 pm

This is mostly directed at aviationwiz, because he has two Premiums :)

If anybody has more than on Premium to test, can you test a couple of different discs (one that is 'good' and one that is known to be unreadable) in various Premium units and post results here?

I'm eager to know if all Premiums give roughly the same results.

I only have one unit myself to test.

Another thing to check would be the results for those made in Japan versus those made in China.

For what it's worth, the c't article mentioned that the QProbe tests were quite reproducible between 2 units they had.

I'll second the request to AWiz for more comparisons, though- maybe he'll end up with one each of both sources of the drive too.

Sure, I'll give test it out.

As for Ian, I'm not sure where my first drive was made, but I'll be sure to check out where my second drive was made before I install it. (Drive should come in a few hours!)

Disk was burned at 52x on Plextor Premium Drive B.

As you can see, the results are very similar.

Remarkable consistency. Thanks for the test.

Could you check another disc (if you have) that is full of data up to the 80 minute mark and hopefully with an increase in errors towards the end?

It would be really useful to see the difference (if any) in reading discs that are not optimal. This is where the differences in reading manifest, if at all.

Yeah, that was the only disk I had at the time. I'll bring out my original test disks tomorrow or the next day.
