Verbatim 52x burner?

Postby Intimidator on Sat Jul 19, 2003 12:17 pm

Just heard that Best Buy 7/20-7/26 flyer will have a Verbatim 52x burner for $14.99 after rebate. What is the actual name brand of this burner? What is the quality of this burner? What software comes in the retail version?

Are you aware of any conflict issues with this burner and using the VIAKM266 chipset on an AMD MB?

Has anyone had any problems with getting rebates back from Verbatim?

Thanks in advance!

Intimidator, i think this is the second time i see you ask this question.

i can't be 100% sure, but i think you're worrying yourself needlessly.

the KM266 chipset is, if i'm not mistaken, similar to the KT266 chipset. only it has integrated graphics. as far as optical drives are concerned, the I/O stuff of the chipsets is are (probably) identical.

lots of people use drives (of all brands and makes) on VIA-chipset based motherboards and there usually aren't any problems.

How can you tell which one of the 3 burners it is BEFORE you buy it?

There is nothing wrong with either of the 3 burners. I got my Verbatim 48x and got an Aopen, I was upset, but after doing some tests, with the exception of the thing where you have to hold down the eject button for 3 seconds to get 50x read, it was a good drive. Perhaps even better than my Lite-On. Lite-On is much better with firmware upgrades though.
