Which cdrw to buy?

Postby Nfountou on Mon Jul 21, 2003 5:21 am

I just about buying a new cdrw drive and I am very confused. First of all I wouldnt like to buy a Plextor. They are too expensive... I was thinking for sony 52x or Teac 52x. What interests me most is the quality of the produced cds. I was also thinking for liteon 52x but I cannot find it in a local store and after all I heard that sony is the same with liteon....

Newegg has the LTR52246S for $44.99 and NO S&H. Note that $38 one is OEM you definitely want the RETAIL package.

Hmm, why does he definitely want the retail package? I agree, for some things having the retail package is better (i.e. if you want all the wires, manuals, etc.), but if you don't need all that stuff and can save a few bucks getting an OEM drive, then I say go for it.

Yes you may save 1 or 2 dollars with the OEM. However, the retail package you will get the warranty at least for one yr rather than 90days. Plus you will get the manuals and extra software the came with the deal. OEM you pretty much just get the drive and thats it. Now unless you have all the other stuff including Nero then I guess you would be all set except for the warranty.

I just bought the Sony CRX220E1 Retail and I am very satisfied. Very low C1 errors, and with the new Liteon firmware works even better! :)

Also it was cheaper than the Liteon!

Is there any other test than kporbe that I can do in order to check the cd quality of the cds?

I bought a LG 4480B from Wal-Mart for $99 and now they have them for $60. Just my luck. I am very happy with it and have burned quite a lot with it with no problem. There are more expensive ones I know but if you have a budget this is a good cheap one.
