sony dru-500ax: buy or wait?

Postby laxkraap on Wed Jul 23, 2003 8:47 am

i been visiting this site for a couple of weeks and am ready to buy a dvd burner.my question is:
I have a sony 500ax on 'hold' at OD for 24hrs. at $209. Is this a good deal, I think they are discontinued or should I get the 510 model?Money is a small factor. I plan on backing up dvd movies.
Any suggestions welcomed.

Yes, $209 is a very good price for a Sony 500AX. However if money is no object, then the 510A is a better choice because it has 4X +RW instead of 2.4X and better writing performance on 4X -R discs with the latest firmware upgrade. Go through the discussion threads and reviews at CDRLabs regarding the Sony 500AX and 510A to learn more about the pros and cons of these two models vs. other brands.

Or you could buy the DW-U10A, which I think is the OEM version of the DRU510A, for $197:

LiveWarehouse is frequently mentioned on my favorite bargain site, Techbargains.com .
