I Finaly Got A Combo Drive!

Postby craiger on Sat Jul 26, 2003 1:33 pm

I changed my mind about the new computer. I'm going to wait and get a new one when Windows Longhorn comes out hopefully in 2005. I got Buslink's new 48x24x48x16x combo. I know its actually the Lite-On 48x combo drive. It was only $50 at CompUSA. With a $10.00 instant rebate and a $20.00 mail in rebate. The deal starts on Sunday my mistake. Plus the specs just said all I need to run the drive was just an IBM compatible PC. It didn't say if I needed a Pentium 1,2,3 or 4. I got Nero Express and Power DVD XP with it. I know Lite-On will probably come out with a 52x combo but that wont be that much faster than mine right? Thanks for all of the previous help guys! Should I take a snapshot of drive's specs? How would I do that? Later, Craiger.

That is an excellent deal! I had no idea that Buslink was selling Lite-ON combo drives.

Lite-ON does have a 52x drive on the way, the LTC-52162H, but it may not be out for a while.

If you want to find out information on your new drive, then use Nero InfoTool or DISCInfo (Choose capabilities info)

You don't really need to post the specs since we can get them elsewhere, but I'd love it if you could send me the "Save CD/DVD Info" file from DISCInfo.

Are you sure it's a liteon?

Postby 4zkxa on Sat Jul 26, 2003 6:29 pm

Does it say smartburn on the box? And does the front look like a liteon (one button, eject hole above volume...) Picture below

I'm on my way to CompUSA now, hopefully I can stop myself before I get there. $70 (if I don't get my rebate from Buslink) is still pretty cheap for being able to have it right away...

I understand. I just hate knowing that we are supporting the unethical behavior of a company like Buslink by continuing to buy their products, whether you care if you receive your rebate or not.

Buslink: 79.99
Memorex: 89.99
Sony: 99.99

All the same hardware. There was no such deal here so I didn't get it.

Sorry, I forgot to say that the deal starts on Sunday 7-27. Look for the CompUSA ad in Sunday's paper. I think the deal lasts till next Sunday. I needed the drive today because my old DVD-ROM went out on me. That was the only drive I had, CompUSA said they could rering it so I would get the $10.00 instant discount and the $20.00 mail in rebate. I have to go back on Sunday or sometime this week to do it. Sorry, again. Here is some of the Nero Info tool info on my Buslink combo drive:

Craiger, does your box says Smartburn on it? The ones at my local store don't. They just say "buffer underrun protection", assembled in the USA, software included are Nero Express and Cyberlink DVD.

Sorry for the many questions, it just that Computer USA has a pretty steep return policy (15% open box) and Buslink is not exactly a good rebate company so I just want to make sure that the model I buy is the same as yours.

On the box it says buffer underrun protection. The Nero Info tool is weird. It says Buffer Underrun on the main page. But when you run the Nero tool and save the info it doesn't say buffer underrun. Unless I'm doing the Nero Info Tool wrong.
