NeroMix vs. Nero Media Player - what's the difference?

Postby dodecahedron on Wed Jul 30, 2003 4:51 pm

nero US website: http://www.nero.com/us/index.html
nero Europe/International website: http://www.nero.com/en/index.html

the US site has Nero 6 Ultra.
the Intl site has Nero 6.

in the US Nero 6 Ultra, one of the components is NeroMIX.
in the Intl Nero 6, one of the components is Nero Media Player.
apart from this they're identical.

NeroMIX:

CD Recording and digital audio in the mix!

NeroMIX goes above and beyond an all-in-one CD recording solution, transforming your computer into the ultimate recording studio that utilizes Nero’s powerful burning engine.

With the cool CD Recording and Digital Audio Suite, you can:

transfer and burn music on CD
use the Cover Designer to print labels and playlists!
pick the "look"of the media player, while you play back music and videos!
Mix your tracks, add effects and use the EQ like a pro!
Organise your music how you like it!

Nero Media Player:

Nero Media Player -
The jukebox for your PC
The Nero Media Player, specialized in playing back audio data, offers a large range of functions and effects for the perfect reproduction of audio CDs, MP3, MP4, WMA, AIFF, WAV files etc.

so what's the deal? what's the difference between these 2 programs?
Nero Media Player is just for playing various formats, but does no burning or editing of music files? but NeroMIX does?

also, in the US site there's no mention of the Nero Media Player as far as i could see.
but in the Intl site NeroMIX is offered as a separate product for purchase.
$22 for serial key, $40+$9 for CD. (through the Nero 5.5 shop still).

i'm guessing every functionality of Nero Media Player is incorporated into NeroMIX?

also, are the Nero 6 serial keys different from Nero 6 and Nero 6 Ultra?
i mean, since i'm from Israel i guess the key i received is for Nero 6, so i'm wondering if it will unlock the NeroMIX program?
whereas my friend C from the states who bought Nero 6, his key will probably unlock the NeroMIX. will it unlock Nero Media Player if he were to download it separately?

anyone know any details? are my assumptions correct?

The Nero 6 key unlocks both. You'll see when you install them. You can have them both installed at the same time, and they work fine together.

As near as I can tell, Mix does three major things that MediaPlayer does not:

1. Burn music CDs (either CD-DA or ISO-9660 with audio files like mp3)
2. Invoke the Cover Editor?? (It looks like there is a button to do this on MediaPlayer, but it is grayed out)
3. Display different skins and visualizations

Mix also has one DSP plugin (transpose and time stretch) while MediaPlayer has none.

I don't see anything MediaPlayer can do that Mix can not.

Neither lets you edit music files. You need to use Nero Wave Editor for that, which I think both the North America and Europe/International packages include.

Basically, the biggest difference is that Mix lets you burn from the player application. I don't think that is too much value for people like you and me who are already quite comfortable using Burning ROM, but it might be of some value to less experienced users.

Of course, you could try downloading the demo version of Mix to see for yourself.
