Optorite DD0203

Postby P1Tom on Fri Jul 18, 2003 8:36 pm

I am in the market for buying a new DVD Burner. I am considering this one and I am hoping to get your opinions on it. Just do you know the main reason I am getting this is to be able to backup my DVD's. I like that is supports both formats (-/+). I read the DVD X Copy works with it, is that the best software to use? I heard DVD X Copy Express does not work with it, is that true? I have never used and DVD Burning Software. I will also use it to back up my files on CDR. I also like the price of the DVD Burner, but will spend more if this one will just give me problems.

TIA,
P1Tom

P1Tom,

Check out this thread:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=11176

I can't recommend this drive enough.

I think that Livewarehouse still has the drive pretty inexpensively (try to use coupon 'opto4').

Best of luck.

Alright, it is ordered and on it's way (I Hope)..

I don't under stand what you mean by Taiyo Yuden. What is that? Where would I see that on a DVD? Is that a brand name?

Thanks for all of your help..

Taiyo Yuden is a Japanese manufacturer of high quality CD-R and DVD media, it also sells its product using the brand name "That's" in Asia and Europe, but not in the US. You'll get a 4X DVD+R disc made by TY in your Optorite retail box.

If you download DVDInfo from the following link:

http://www.nicsoft.com.au/dvdinfo.html

then you'll be able to identify the manufacturer ID of the DVD media.

If you are planning on using the HD-Burn feature of the DD0203, you would get better results when you use the Fujifilm CD-Rs made by TY. Many people swear by the TY made CD-Rs. So far there is little evidence that TY made DVD media are available in the US retail channels, although recently one person reported that the 10-pack Fujifilm DVD-R discs he bought were made by TY, according to the following link:

Thanks

Ok, that makes sense, thanks Telstar.

From everything I read I need to update my Firmware on this drive to the latest. Is that hard to do? I have never done it before and I don't want to break the drive before I even get to use it.

How do you actually do it?
