guys need help deciding on a dvd burner

Postby ZL1 on Mon Aug 04, 2003 11:53 pm

Hi

guys I need some help with buying a good dvd burner on a student budget

recently looked at the new lite-on, the ricoh (amazingly cheap for richoh -140 at newegg) and the LG

I was thinking to go with "+" only snce they are much cheaper than dual format models, or is it much better to go with a dual ?

please help me out

also Ive heard that dvd burners are due to drop in price soon, is that a solid rumor ? I migh wait since Im short on cash and a drop in price will help

Thanks
Dan

Well, DVD+R/RW media is generally more expensive than DVD-R/RW media, so if you want to pay less go with a DVD-R/RW only drive like a DVR-104 or a DVR-105 maybe. You should be able to find a good deal on one of those.

Prices are always dropping, it a matter if you want it now, or could you wait

8x burners are on the way, so there is a decent chance that prices are going to drop some more just before they come out

so its a matter of how long can you wait, and is it worth saving the couple extra bucks

DVD+R/RW is considered a better technology, but DVD-R/RW is supposedly more compatible.

hmm thats an interesting point, I guess I'll go with + because like every other good format it should after all become more and more compatible with time plus I mostly need to be able to read them in my own PC

Thanks

I am very happy with my NEC 1300 A It is a dual format burner and recognizes all media so far. And it is available at a very decent price.

CenDyne and Verbatim both use NEC ND-1300A's in their kits.

Otherwise, the TDK 440N is based on that drive. Different bezel and firmware though.
