Pointless Upgrade?

Postby MonteLDS on Sun Aug 10, 2003 5:39 pm

I have done several upgrade to my machine since I got it.

Orignal I made a P4 1.7ghz w/ a 512 of RDRAM 800 with 160 gig HD space

Then I had an 80 gig drive die. Luckly that drive was free :) so i got a 120.

Then I swap my board and CPU & memory for P4 2.4 ghz 533 and a Gig of RDRAM 1066 and then added 2 120 onto the RAID controler.

I just now upgaded my 2.4 to a 2.66

pointless upgrade for a guy who doesn't do any gamming and if he ever could find time or company to help him do video he would?

I have to agree with your statement on your recent CPU upgrade. It is a pointless upgrade to go from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz.

I woulda stuck with the 2.4GHz, since they overclock so well...2.8+GHz would ('ve) be(en) easy...

The 2.6 should do pretty good...2.8-2.9GHz ??

UPGRADE

Postby gmaster on Fri Aug 15, 2003 3:28 am

I recently bought a second hand PC with the following specifications:
AMD Duron 850 Mhz processor
6 GB HDD
128 SDRAM PC 133
50x CD-Rom
Samsung 14" color Monitor
500 watts AVR

The question is, I want to buy 40 GB HDD 7,200 rpm and purchase a new PC 133 128MB SDRAM. Do you think it's a good upgrade???

I'd go for that upgrade if I were you, gmaster. In fact, I just upgraded a used Celeron 366 I bought by installing a 40GB HDD. It was definitely worth it! :D

Edit: I would also recommend adding a Lite-On CD-RW drive!
