Thanks Ian, for finding this bargain. I was down to six burners (only five installed) and really needed another one. :P

I sorta wanted a Liteon LTR-52327S just to experiment with it. At this price, it's too good to pass up.

Just can't get enough of those state-of-the-art $9.99 burners.

Sweet, but 3 rebates? :o

I'd rather bang my head against the wall than do more rebates!

I felt that way, and had actually gotten my outstanding rebates down to three or so (briefly), but I couldn't resist this (and another recent deal), especially since a colleague wants to buy a burner from me for his daughter (he knows about Hot Deals etc. but I think he is tired of rebates), so I will sell him one of the two new (bought one cheap after rebates in January but never opened it) Benq drives that I haven't installed yet.
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

LiteOn 52246S (another)
LiteOn 52327S 52X CD-RW
TDK 40X USB 2.0 CD-RW

Same here ;)
The last time I bought a CD or DVD burner without rebate(s), coupon(s), an instant discount, or any combination of the three, was the TEAC
CD-W540E.

I have a feeling a bunch of people will ebay the labeling kit to try to pay even less for the burner :)

This is absoutely insane. I bought the Verbatim badged LTR52246S (LiteOn) about 3 months ago at Best Buy for $19 AMIR. It was destined to go in my son's in law office machine. Well, I finally installed that yesterday (first time that I ever got inside a Gateway and fooled around) after the drive sat around my house for that 3 months.

I guess that I'll get this one and let it sit around for who knows how long as I don't need it (there is a Memorex badged 52x24x52x LiteOn in my box now).

Or should I hold out for a $2 burner, after 4 rebates totaling $68? :o

what's the catch here?
clicking on the $10 mail-in rebate link you get:
PROOF OF PURCHASE REQUIREMENTS:
1. This Rebate Form
2. Copy of Receipt
3. Original UPC from Box
4. If you have any questions or wish
5. to check on the status of your Rebate
6. please call 1-800-462-8379 or log on
7. to: www.avery.com/rebates

clicking on the $20 mail-in rebate link you get:
PROOF OF PURCHASE REQUIREMENTS:
1. This Rebate Form
2. Copy of Receipt
3. Copy of UPC from box

clicking on the $30 mail-in rebate link you get:
PROOF OF PURCHASE REQUIREMENTS:
1. This Rebate Form
2. Copy of Receipt
3. Original UPC barcode cut from box
4. Email Adress (optional)

(emphasis is mine)
so because of the requirement for the original UPC you can't apply for both the $10 and the $30 mail-in rebates!

am i missing something here?

dodecahedron,

The $10 rebate is for the Avery AfterBurner. You send in the UPC for that.

The $30 rebate is for the drive. You send in the UPC off the box.

Well, that was about 12:30 PST. Now (3:43) the site doesn't show "sold out" but seems to be buggered up and I can't get the item into a shopping cart.

4:15 PST, I got through and it took the order for delivery 8/20 - 8/29.

Right, I know what you're talking about--it took quite a bit of time to "go through" for me as well...since i had to set up an account as this was the 1st time i ordered online from BEST BUY. And, boy, am i glad i hopped on this one!!!

Slim, i also wanted to thank you for hooking me up with a GREAT ink supply guy (Dusty). He gave me some terrific prices for my Canon S750! Thanks, bro! CHEERS!!

AND I CAN'T WAIT TO GET THIS Lite-On!!! I have the 40125S and look forward to upgrading! :D

Is it me or is BB's website down more often than not? They should fire their web dev group. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yea, they re-did their website a month or so ago. Could be residual bugs that are still being ironed out...

Also 2 problems with shopping online:

1) Reward Zone points are not earned online, only at the retail stores;

2) Bestbuy.com won't accept a PMB address (a personal mailbox address). This is a big deal for people who have a business with PMB addresses, or people who travel, because PMB addresses are manned during business hours to accept and securely store packages, which is preferrable over straight home delivery if one is not home.

I know what you mean, but for me, doing the rebates is worth it to get this drive for this price!

Edit: I didn't see anything about it being sold out when I ordered; they must have gotten them back in stock quickly! :D

Yes; I got an e-mail saying that they expected to ship mine by 8/25/03. Are you sure that your e-mail actually said they would ship in 24 days? If so, that's certainly pretty bad.

I ordered mine on Aug 11 and received an email stating "We have received your order, and it will be processed as soon as possible." Later that same day I received a email stating "The item listed below is not yet available to be shipped. We expect to ship it to you by 08/19/2003." Today, 08/19/03 I received a email stating: "The item listed below is not yet available to be shipped. We expect to ship it to you in the next 22 days." That means it might not ship until 9/10 and I probably would not receive it until Monday 9/15. Too close to the rebate postmark date for me. If I do not receive a message that is has shipped prior to 9/10 I will probably cancel the order.

I got the same email from BestBuy today. The only difference on my order is that when I check my account on BestBuy.com the status of my Avery-AfterBurner CD Labeling System is in process and no longer on backorder. I've ordered on the 11th also which was right after I received my Lite-On LTR-52327S which I've ordered from NewEgg.com for 44.99. And I was thinking of send back my newegg order as soon as I get my order shipped from BestBuy, but now... I don't know.. I guess I just might end up keeping both if BestBuy isn't gonna screw us over with the rebate postmark due date. :-?
