128 MB or 256 MB ?

Postby TidusTheCoolest on Sun Sep 07, 2003 5:19 am

Gonna get a MSI GeForce FX 5600 soon . Got 2 choice . 128 MB and 256 MB . The 256 MB ver cost only U$ 10 more than the 128 MB version . Which one should I get ? Do I really need 256 MB card ? I'm looking forward to play DirectX 9 games like Doom3 and Half-Life 2 .

If the 256MB version is only US$10 more than the 128MB version, I'd recommend getting the 256MB version.

The 256 MB version have slower memory when compared to the 128MB version . Isn't this gonna affect performance ? Should I go with 128MB memory (but faster) or 256 MB memory (but slower) ?

If your comparing 5600 to 5600, get the 256MB, if your comparing 5600 to 5600 ultra, then it's your call. I'm loving my 5600 256MB.

If you want to play Half Life 2, dont get a FX 5600 !!!!!!

And if you still want a FX 5600 make sure you get the 128 version, the chipset is to slow to make use of the 128mb extra (256mb is used in very high res. with fsaa and af on, and the FX 5600 is to slow for that)

But better save then sorry, get a Radeon 9600 (pro) with 128mb !!

(check anand for hl2 benchies, the R9600 pro beats the FX 5900 Ultra in hl2)

Really ? I heard that R9600 Pro can be OCed to get almost the same performance as R9700 ?

The R9700 has a better architecture, with more pipelines, and will almost always be faster then the R9600Pro.

Check your budget and buy the fastest ATI card.

Check the HL2 story on anandtech, Tomshardware, [H], NVnews.net, Driverheaven.net and many more !! And don't buy nVidia if you want to play dx9 games with shaders in them !!

You already have A Radeon 9500 Pro?
Dont bother to get a R9600 (pro) the card is slower then the R9500 Pro !!!!

So get a R9800 if you want to have a faster card.
