New 52/32/52 CD-RW from LG. I haven't heard much about this drive until recently.

nice find Ian !
... I wonder if it's any better than Lite-On... LGs used to rock... and now they're all down to 2mb buffer, dropping in overall quality... review coming out bud !?

Price seems pretty cheap too, I wonder how it matches up to my Lite-On 52/32/52 8) - I went to this form a LG 16x10x40 btw so would like to know if LG's still got what it takes as my old LG was fantastic, i just needed more speed :P

LG GCE-8525B Installation Problems

Postby wizard4040 on Sun Sep 21, 2003 12:32 pm

I have recently purchased the above mentioned CDRW and have encountered a wierd problem with the installation.
My motherboard is a ECS L4S5A with a primary and secondary IDE. I currently have HD0 on the primary IDE with nothing else. My secondary IDE had a Sony CDRW as the 'Master', which I have removed. I want to replace the Sony with the LG CDRW and am unable to install it as the 'Master' on the secondary IDE. I can however install the LG as a 'SLAVE'. When I try to install it as the 'Master' the PC hangs on boot up.

Has anyone else had this type of issue installing this type of CDRW on other machines and if you did did you ever resolve it?

Thanks :(

If you bought the Premium, you'd have an 8MB buffer

Usually due to being improperly jumpered.

Then you must miss burning at 12x in PIO mode, because at 32x and higher, it makes absolutely no difference whether you have 2 or 8.

I agree with rdgrimes. Looks like the jumper is set to slave right now and needs to be changes to master for it to work as master.

Wow, Future Shop in Canada has this on sale now for $47.99 (CDN) after rebates. I think I might pick it up...but I am a little skeptical because I haven't seen any reviews on it. My previous dilemma was choosing between the Liteon 52327S or the LG 8520B. Maybe I'll try out the LG 8525B...it couldn't be that bad, could it?

Thanks for your time.
