i bought the cows!

Postby MonteLDS on Tue Oct 21, 2003 4:08 pm

So theirs this movie, that is called Johnny Lingo that was made by BYU films about an island people who would bargain for their bride by paying in cows. Their was a girl who was named Mahana and she was consider ugly and useless by her father. Johnny Lingo was a very handsome man and very desirable among all the women. Also Johnny Lingo is a shrud island trader and many of the island people were saying that Johnny Lingo was such a trader that he would only pay 1 cow. Some people said that if Mahana father asked for one cow Johnny Lingo would settle with the hoofs and the horns. The women would also say how their husband spent 3 cows or 4 cows on them. And the women would be very proud. When Johnny Lingo came; he & Mahana father sat and spoke. As the island people watched on to listen to what Johnny Lingo might pay for Mahana the father said that he wanted 3 cows, and all the islanders laughed at him for the whole town saw Mahana as ugly & worthless. Johnny Lingo held his hand up to stop the laughter and said "3 cows is many, but not enough for Mahana; I will pay 8 cows!" All the people were shocked! No one on the entire island had ever been bought at 8 cows. The next day Johnny Lingo came with all 8 cows.

Now the reason he paid so much was to lift Mahana self esteem. Cause all the women would boast about how many cows their husband bought them for. And Johnny Lingo said "how does a woman feel if she is only bought for two or one cow"

Now to the reason why I told you this story.

Being this is a VERY well known BYU film. All LDS families know about it. So yesterday I went and picked up 10 small plastic cows from Toys R Us and a larger stuff animal cow to ask for Jennifer hand. The parents and I talked and they are good with me asking their daughter.

Any Questions?

Good luck! :)
Just in time for the holiday season too.

Have you discussed marriage with Jen in the past, or is this going to be a (total) surprise?

Good for you.
At least you made it clear, and you both know your intentions.

no matter how romantic you are it does not make up for bad timing

NEWS BREAK: I won't be getting engaged, at least not right now. She doesn't feel it is right time so it isn't the right time for us, it has to come natural for us both, right? Well let me be very breif here

I do not know if I will be sticking around for her cause she lives so far away (79 miles one way) and I go down there twice a week.

Do I Love her? YES abosuotly. But does that mean that I should wait for something that might never be.

The choice to stay or go really is killing me. When I make my choice I will let you know. For now I am not going be posting, but i will check the board most likely for the next 2 or 3 days to see replies.

Thanks for your support

I'd never recommend cheating on her, but if you feel as though you want to explore other avenues in the meantime, let her know that. There's a saying that you never know how much you miss something until it's gone. If you date other people in the interim and find none of them warmed your heart like Jen, then you know she's the one. Go back to her and let her know what I just said.
No, I like women.
